A friend of mine showed me the Champ that he had been flying and I immediately thought it looked like a cute little aircraft. So I bought one and I have never had so much fun with a plane in my life. It climbs right out and is really easy to fly. So many of the other electrics are underpowered but this one has plenty of power and that makes it easier to handle. One has to be pretty quick on the controls as I have been used to flying larger gas models. It does not like much wind but if you fly it when it is calm, you will have a blast. Buy one!!

My stepdaughter and I took this plane out for her first ever flight on a breezy evening. She did great because the plane has so much power it handles a good breeze. We found it cruises on about 30% power. Be careful that after getting it up to a good altitude that you cut back the power, or know how to use the rudder and elevator to counter the immense power.
Even though we crashed five times in addition to our 15 minutes of flight time, there was NO damage. Awesome plane!

I've tried several small electrics looking for that perfect plane for around the lake behind my house, and for flying when there are numbers of people in a local park that I like to fly in. The Champ was the perfect choice, bar none. I already have 125+ flights on mine, and have bought another as a back-up. It has plenty of power, slows for graceful landings (a great plane for practicing those), and can do some decent acrobatics and limited inverted flight. Wth the color scheme it's also easy to "track." Get one!

This RC plane is awesome. I had the Super Cub before I got this one. I thought it would be weird to get a smaller plane, but the Champ is a blast! I got this because I didn't have a large enough space to fly my Cub in. There is a field near my house that is the perfect size for the Champ but not so much for the Super Cub. When I got it the box was larger than I expected, and it had a handle on it for carrrying. On the pictures it looks like the body is really yellow, but I found out that it is a darker shade of yellow. I guess it really isn't a big deal, though. It is packed securely in the box with foam and comes with everything you will need to fly; remote, battery operated charger, the plane's battery, and the batteries for the controller. When I unsecured the champ from the box I quickly noticed that the top half of the fuselage and the bottom half are secured by a few pieces of tape. It wasn't loose, but they could have made it one piece. The plane was surprisingly light, too. For some reason the front landing gear is detachable. The landing gear is enough to take off from the ground, but don't expect to be doing circles all over the ground. See my next review to see how it flew.

Well I'm currently in Iraq and i just so happen to bite the R/C bug and bought a 3 channel heli. although very fun not quite what i wanted so i ordered the Champ to start off with. This plane is very forgiving to say the least. I use it to pass time between missions and it's a joy to fly. I ended up getting some of my soldiers into the hobby and the Champ is also what they started out with.

This plane can really take a beating. Well being very impatient i decided to take my first flight ever in a little windy condition, needless to say how that turned out, but once i got the hang of it (which wasn't very long...like 5 min) it flew like a dream!

Really hope they come out with a 4ch so that i can practice so that i can feel more comfortable with the larger planes when i think i'm ready for that level.

A Blast to Fly!

This is such a fun plane to fly. You would almost have to try to crash it bad enough to do serious damage. My 10 year old son has never flown before and the box said 14 up, but after flying it myself, I had no reservations about him giving it a try. After very little coaching and getting him to stay light on the stick, he was flying like a pro in less than half an hour, doing loops and making perfect landings. I can't say enough about this plane and would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like to get started. Only reason for the 4 rating, one wheel fell off and was lost after second flight. But parts are so easy to get, and so cheap, that it isn't a big deal when you have to replace something.

A REAL BEGINNER

Quality

Fun

Value

Durability

Appearance

I don't see how some people writing reviews can really critique a plane for a beginner. I AM A BEGINNER. The champ is the ONLY plane I have even tried to fly. The first time I tried to fly the plane, I spent more time trying to get the plane out of trees than I spent flying. If you are a real beginner, and I mean first time, take the plane to a soccer field or football field and make sure there is no wind. A REAL beginner needs more help even putting the battery into the plane's connection correctly. Also, "push in" to put the transmitter into "simple mode" doesn't mean push the stick to the center of the controller. It means push "down" on the stick. Have we now established what "beginner" REALLY means?
First attempt was relatively disasterous. Total over compensation of the controls, into trees, nose dives into the ground, head on crashes into fence, etc. And the darn little thing still flies. Read the manual -- for the real beginner, even tips like 'shut down the throttle" when the plane crashes are very important tips.
Second attempt was on a soccer field. My son held the plane until I had power going. Still very touchy, but certainly better than trying to fight the trees. Most flights lasted about 10 to 12 seconds, but I'm still working on longer flights.
Most important, this really is a very durable plane. It's not magic; it doesn't fly itself, but for someone who is REALLY JUST BEGINNING, and if you don't have anyone else to learn from, this plane is very forgiving. I'll probably try my third attempt tomorrow. So how long have I been flying now? How about 2 days with no other experience.
The Champ is a real joy to continually crash and not have to worry about replacing parts each time it crashes. A great value for THE REAL BEGINNER. By the way - Hobby Zone - how about a category for participation in hobby of less than a year?

Very fun plane. Very good tracking. Good flight times 10-15 min. Flies well on 25% throttle about waist high all over a football field with excellent precise control. Can fly in the street in front of my house without difficulty. Can get it inverted, can roll it, OUTside loops, very fun. Few hard hits into the ground (grass), very little damage. Crashes on concrete tear up the foam a little.

I have been wanting to get into RC airplanes for a long time. My neighbor has been flying RC for a long time and he recommended the Champ because it is durable and easy to fly. I purchased the Champ about 10 days ago and it is really fantastic. I am still crashing frequently and so far the only damage has been some paint scratches on the nose and I lost the spinner off the prop. The plane will fly with a little breeze but at least for me it is easier to control when the wind is calm. With a little breeze it goes way too fast when flying downwind and I lose control.

I think this is a great little plane and I would recommend it to anyone for a first time experience in RC.

This plane is the easiest plane to fly. It is very forgiving except in wind. it doesn't like wind verry much. I have two helicopters at the moment and have had several airplanes in the past none of which flew as well (gas or electric). i can't say enough about the champ. For the new pilot it is perfect; i wish it had been made about 14 yrs ago when i flew my first. It would have made the learning curve much easier for me and had saved me a lot of money. I would suggest to any one looking to get in to the hobby to get this plane first. Happy Flying to All!

Bought this plane to learn to fly and I'll tell you I'm glad I did! Flies very well and does neat tricks too. Doesnt look like much out of the box but it is sure to please. Clipped a telephone pole and broke the wing in half, applied some glue from a hot glue gun and it was flying again in minutes! Get an extra battery though! You can fly one battery while the other is charging........non-stop fun that way.

Absolutly the best training plane on the market. For under $100.00, this ready to fly even comes with 8 AA batteries for the transmitter and battery charger. It has taken bunches of "crash and burn" nose dives and numerous bouts with chain-link fences and has held together through me and my 2 Grandkids learning to fly.

This is my first RC plane. I found it easy to fly. It survived several high speed crashes into the ground without any damage. I did manage to tear one wing partially off by hitting a pole . . . however, it took less than ten minutes to repair with no effect on flying performance.

With the landing gear attached plane is very stable and you can do "touch and go's" and taxiing. Take-offs can be "hands free" from any smooth surface.

Detatching the landing gear greatly increases the plane's performance. I was able to do many acrobatics including inverted flight, rolls, outside loops, hammerheads and vertical rolls. This plane was able to pull enough "g's" to make the battery tear loose from its velcro.

This is just a wonderful airplane to fly. I've been building and flying models for many years and this is by far the most fun I've ever had with a R/C plane. It is so fun to know I can fly it almost everywhere and in most cases, no one will care, as it's almost silent.
I have told many friends about this model and would suggest it to anyone who wants to get into R/C or just wants a fun plane to mess around with.

This is my first RC plane. I have flown small three chanel helicopters indoors for about a year.

I got this plane for Christmas and love it. I had a lot of time off for the holiday and flew it morning and evening each day. Now that I'm back to work I can't wait for the weekend to get a chance to fly again. It is very easy to control, the video is completely accurate. The kit is exactly as advertised. It doesn't fly in wind. You need calm air. I was a little too excited and took it out in a light breeze. Twice. I successfully broke the wing on both sides of the fuselage during two separate crashes. I'm a slow learner... I was able to fix it with toothpicks and packing tape. Doesn't look as pretty but still flies just fine. I also got too close to a tree and a branch pulled off the tail section. The plane crashed without further damage and I was able to reattach the tail section (more packing tape) and continue flying.

Battery life is good for about 6-10 minutes. I have been able to fly the plane as far as I can see it's orientation without going out of radio range. I get a lot of onlookers at the park I fly in.

It is definitely a beginner's kit and will only do basic aerobatics, there is no aileron control. Wonderful and cheap enough to learn on before advancing to something bigger and more complex.

I am part of the JROTC in high school and on sundays we do R/C flying. I have flown 3 planes previous to this one. I bought this plane at a hobby shop near my house and LOVE it. I fly it whenever possible. I have flown the Night Vapor, the Ember 2, and the J-3 mini micro cub. I tried to teach my grandfather to fly it but he crashed it in less than 2 seconds. The crash snapped the wing but because the parts are inexpensive and easy to fix, I had my plane up and running in no time. I love the plane and think it is great for anyone that is thinking about flying planes as a hobby. Just don't crash it into bird feeder hangers. ;)

Love this plane! Anyone can fly it straight out of the box. If you crash it just tape or elmers glue it back together and get it back in the air. I did use a simulator before flying this so it made it that much easier and really watch the wind until you get the hang of it. Once you get the hang of it click down the right stick and try some quicker flying and stunts. I really enjoy this plane but it really needs to be flown in calm winds for the beginner. I would definitely recommend this or the mini cub. I have them both and love flying them. I need to move on up now.

I have flown at least 6 batteries through this Champ over high grass with NO damage. It has proven, so far, to be a great little trainer. I had no help and flew it very well. I think we should beware of hard surfaces, it is a small a/c, and hard surfaces may well cause damage. BUT, so far it has proven to be a fine little a/c.!!!

I currently own 2 Champs, one I lost after flying out of receiver range but I recovered it and it still flies. This plane is so durable and can also perform whatever aerobatics you can expect from a 3 channel trainer. I'd recommend an age range of 12+. I fly every day I can, weather permitting, and have yet to have a serious accident happen to my 2nd Champ. Currently it has 210+ flights with no damage whatsoever.

I HAVE TWO 1/4 SCALE PLANES, A REAL PAIN TO HAUL. THIS CHAMP IS GREAT, I KEEP IT IN THE TRUNK OF MY CAR, FLY IT IN THE PARKING LOT AT WORK, AT MY GRANDKIDS' HOUSE, EVEN IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. IT HAS A NICE STORAGE BOX TO PROTECT THE AIRPLANE, JUST REMEMBER IT'S 3 CHANNEL TRAINER. I'VE FOUND IT TO BE TOUGH AND A LOT OF FUN.

I have set up a few people now with this as their first airplane. It's a little bigger and a bit more durable that the comparable J3 Cub. Being larger makes it easier to see and it's characteristics straight out of the box are very tame. It will fly itself once up in the air, what I mean is, you can let go of the controls and it will track beautifully if you are trimmed properly. It lands easily as well. Just get on a nice glide path, cut the throttle and coast in forever.
I also found that by setting the control horns differently on the rudder and elevator make the plane much more exciting and acrobatic. I set them one hole out from the closest inside one. I always have someone ask at indoor flyins, "how do you get yours to do that stuff?" It's a more fun and responsive flyer set like this, making great fun for even more advanced pilots.
Anyway, that's my take on this little easy, slow flying beauty. Good looks are a plus as well.

This airplane is a ball. I can't keep my hands off it. It flies very smooth and is very controllable. I would recommend it to every beginner and experienced RC pilot that would like a change of pace. With its bright colors, it is very easy to see. The BNF(Bind And Fly) makes getting out in the field very easy. The batteries charge fast and the charging system is very simple. I have to say my favorite part of this airplane is being able to make take offs and landings from the driveway so easily. Do not pass up this unbeatable deal.

I just got back into the hobby after about 20 years. This plane was worth every dime. I have flown it outside in light winds to it being calm. I have wrecked this plane so many times I can't remember them all. I have had great take offs and landings, touch and go's. This plane will do loops with ease. This plane is tough!
My son flew this plane for the first time and had a blast. He successfuly took off from the ground and landed it with out wrecking it! He has never flown a plane in his life at 16 yrs old. I recommend this plane to anyone who wants to learn to fly!

04/14/2011:
I have been anticipating flying this little plane for a long time. Just took it out for the maiden flight and it was awesome. I flew it indoors in an empty 100 x 100 foot lecture hall with flat carpeted floors and no seats. The little plane flew like a dream. Cruised at around 4-6 mph at 50% throttle. Easy to turn, very stable. Beginners should remember to never apply more than 25% rudder or elevator control (unless you are about to crash into something!). Do not apply rudder or elevator for more than .5 - 1 seconds unless doing wide, lazy turn. My 150mAh battery lasted for over 15 minutes, but I was cruising at 50% throttle nearly all the time, only went up to 75% throttle for takeoffs. I crashed it like 12 times - no damage. The thing just doesn't have the mass - and therefore the energy - to seriously hurt itself.

Summary:
Plane is awesome. Great 1st plane
Takes off in about 3 feet of runway from dead stop @ 100% throttle
Can crash head on into a wall and taxi / takeoff from right where it "landed"
Very good power to weigh ratio - the thing is a mini-beast

I have had my Champ for 4 days and it flies and crashes well. Crashing is to be expected from a beginner. It is fun to fly, I didn't crash as much as I thought I would. This plane was recommended to me by a friend and I don't regret buying it. He has been flying for a very long time and he loves flying it. Now for those of you who say its not a good beginner I have to say your wrong. If you plan on getting into this hobby and don't want to spend the money, you get a simulator. I put in about 6 hours on the simulator and then went out and flew it and I was comfortable flying. You can get a simulator for prety cheap.

I bought this place as a trainer for my nephew. I own the Flyzone Playmate, which is easy to fly, but doesn't handle the wind too well. I was told that this plane could handle the wind a little bit better, and after seeing one fly at my club field, decided to go for it. It's marginally better, but that's due to its size. Other than that, this is a fun little airplane, and it slows down, and flies a little better than the Playmate, but both are basically the same. It's been a great tool for him, and he has all but mastered it. As for myself, I have a ball with it! It's got great flight time, but buy additional batteries. They're cheap enough, and will just add to the grin factor. Oh, and it also holds up well to new fingers on the sticks..

I am a 72 year young vet who got interested in rc flying recently. After studying beginner planes I opted for the Champ. I opened it up, charged the batteries and tried to put it in the air. I have a pretty large back yard and it's my playground now. Admittedly I did crash several times and landed in the trees and bushes a few times. After about two days I finally got to where I could keep it airborne and go where I wanted to. It has taken quite a beating and is in good shape. I did not think I could fly one of these things but now it is a everyday thing. This ole man is having fun. I am glad I opted for the Champ. Like I said it has been very durable. I intend to fly it quite a bit more and then invest in another plane with ailerons and give that a try. Me being a beginner I believe that this is the greatest to start with.

My previous RC experience has been a lesson in how quickly a magnificent creation of balsa and monokote can be turned into a debris field...4 seconds is my record. The advent of foam and electric airplanes has allowed me to enjoy this hobby finally! This silly little, yellow and orange airplane makes me happier, pound for pound, than anything on the planet! In still air, or a light wind, even a ham-fisted orangutan like me, can fly this plane. I find myself watching the trees, waiting for calm air, so I can run to any nearby park or playground to throw this thing around the sky. I've done loops, hammerhead stalls and flown inverted...and best of all I've found that I can actually land an airplane!
Don't get me wrong...I've crashed this thing many times. I've crashed it from 6 feet up, straight down, under power, onto hot-top. I mentally kissed it goodbye as I ran up to it, but when I got there, it looked OK...the motor spun when I pushed the throttle. I threw back in the air and kept flying.
All that said...don't fly in real wind...it's not fun!

I LOVE THIS PLANE!

I've had the Champ a month, love it, easy to fly. Good real fast nice plane to fly, very limited on what it can do. Got 90 plus flights on it, had to buy new parts twice, only thing is the same are the parts inside. Hit a tree, fence, my dog, got bit on the wing of it. I put in the water, got it out, no damage to the battery or the parts inside. Had to replace the tail section. Now I fly the Super Cub DSM, a lot bigger plane, I still fly the Champ. It's a good plane and can hold lots of glue and tape. I fly the Champ with my channel 5 Spektrum. I also use my Spektrum channel 4 for my rc flight game.

Today, after having my Champ a week, was the first day I took it out to a soccer field so I had plenty of room. Winds started out at 5 mph and got up to 12 mph. I was really surprised how well this little plane handled in these windy conditions.
At little of half throttle, it still managed to fly into the wind. Needless to say, none of my landings were graceful, but the plane survived and is still like new. All my take offs were hand launched and no problem with that. If it were possible to damage this plane, I would not hesitate to buy a new one.

I have had my Champ for a couple months now...and it's still flying! Despite dozens of crashes, stuck 40' up in a Pine Tree...and a little mishap with a hawk...(!) it's still flying!

I am new to RC airplanes and have always wanted one since I was a kid. Now that I'm 55...I can be a kid again and I'm having a blast with this little plane. If you remember to put the controller on beginner mode (less travel on the controls)...anyone can fly this plane. My wife is even flying it now!

Great power out of the tiny battery, runs a good 5+ minutes per battery (buy a few extras). Great control...just like the "big" planes! I only fly on very calm evening though...not the plane for a 15 mph wind!

The box is as well designed as the plane! You store you airplane, controller, extra batteries (it has extra slots for airplane batteries), charger etc. all in one easy to use and carry box. It protects your plane to and from the field. BRILLIANT !!

I also really like the AAA powered charger for the airplane batteries. Very well though out.

It just doesn't get any easier than this complete package. Solid A+

Ready to fly when you charge the battery.
Really easy to fly, hand launch and throttle off no hands safe (landings).
I can even fly it reasonably in my 40 x 80 backyard (with lots of trees).
Best flown in under 5 mph winds.
Plenty of power and glides beautifully with throttle off.
The transmitter is even compatible with several Parzone BNF models.

I am a real world pilot feeling the hurt of the cost of real world flying. I was dying for something to cure some of my flying urges and not break my wallet which is why I bought this Champ. Simply put, it is the most fun one can have with an airplane with their feet on the ground. The handling is spectacular, given I was a little worried there were no ailerons, and the amount of power this little thing has can get you out of trouble fast. I've had bad experiences with R/C planes in the past but I must say this is truly a marvel. Seeing this little plane whiz across my backyard with ease and grace gives me a huge smile. Trust me, you will not regret this purchase.

Just bought our first RC plane, The Hobbyzone Champ... This little Champ did great to build up our confidence. My son (17) & I spent a great afternoon together, gently learning how to fly the plane. Also bought a second battery, which charged up while we flew with the other. Highly recommended. Make sure there is zero wind. Even a small 3 mph gust made it dance & increased the challenge in flying it. By the end of the afternoon we were doing whipstalls and I even did my first RC loop. Highly recommended.

My LHS talked me into buying this plane, even though I have experience flying other rc aircraft. I must admit, I am having a blast with this thing. My wife has crashed it several times. The only damage it has suffered, is that the rubber spinner came loose. A dap of hot glue and it is as good as new. It doesn't like a lot of wind, but if you are experienced a little wind is not much of a problem. For all the reviews that state that this plane is too fragile. I have a few things to say. 1) The whole package is only $90. For what you get, this is not expensive. No hobby is cheap. 2) The plane is light. It has to be or you would need a lawn mower engine to get it airborn. 3) You will damage the plane. It is made out of light foam it has to be. They can't make an RC plane out of plywood and steel. Nothing is indestructable when it comes to aviation. I think $90 is a pretty cheap investment if this plane teaches you the basics of rc flight. A flight simulator could cost up to $150 or more, and that doesn't guarantee you that you won't crash when you actually go out to fly. Thanks Hobby Zone for another great product at an incredible price!!

I've been into RC off-road cars for about 20 years now, but I've always wanted to have a plane. I visited my local hobby shop and was introduced to the champ by the guys at the store, he took the time to show me videos of the champ in action and assured me that it's a great trainer plane as him and his son both have one. I bought one and immediately went to the local park where I run my off road buggies. After charging the little li-po battery that was included, I was in the air and flying like a pro within the 1st few minutes! Even mastering the landings came to me really quickly. This is a great plane to try if you're even remotely interested in trying RC planes! Is is very forgiving and doing aerobatics is very easy! I had mine doing loops and mid air stalls within the 1st battery charge! Like the guy at the hobby shop told me, it's best to fly it either early mornings or late evenings as the little plane is thrown around by the wind. With replacement parts being very easy to come by, even when you do have a misshap, you can have your plane back up and running very fast!

I've tried more than 6 "beginner" rc airplanes including Begin Air, Firebird Commander, and the Super Cub. The Champ is definitely the best of the lot as a first airplane. It requires no construction, is extremely easy to fly, and is virtually indestructible.

Be advised: this is a very small airplane with about a 20" wingspan. It has very little mass which makes it very durable but also one which should not be flown in any wind over 5 mph.

Purchased this a week ago - this is my first time flying a plane ever! Charged the battery, plugged it in, and away I went. Yes, I've nose planted it about twice since having it, but it still flies like new. It is an absolute dream to fly, fun to learn the hobby and to see if I liked it - yep I like it! Note! It says in the instructions about shutting off the throttle before you crash or it may damage the ESC ($59.99). I failed to do this and now I have an intermittent problem where I lose connection off and on. The guy at the store says it could be a soldering break from the impact or interference from something. But I really think this is a great plane and love to fly it. Recommend to stay out on the grass for softer crashes!

This plane is truly for the beginner. You can teach yourself to fly in a matter of ten minutes. Just take some basic precautions. I have since taught 6 other people to fly this plane. This plane is the toughest plane I have ever flown.

I grew up around airplanes all my life. I fly full size airplanes and even used to fly the Aeronca 7AC Champ. Throughout my childhood years I built many RC airplanes. Most ended up in millions of pieces and it was frustrating. I bought this small Champ and flew it today right out of the box, even though I haven't flown a model plane in years. It flies really well on a single charge. Unbelievable. Greatest little RC plane ever conceived.

The War-Champ

Appearance

I call my champ the War-Champ as I have painted invasion stripes on the wings as well as the shark mouth typically seen on the P-40 on the front. This was my first RC plane and it has been such a joy to fly. To say this plane is durable is an understatement, it truly does live up to it's name as I have seen this plane take some terrible spills and continue to fly. The box is a carrying case which makes this perfect for throwing in your trunk and flying whenever you get a chance.

The Champ flies great and seems to handle wind much better than the other ultra-micros I've flown. I picked up 3 batteries as you can charge one and keep flying. When the battery you are currently using is running out, the one on the charger is ready to go for almost unlimited fly times!

Champ RTF - Perfect Little Starter Plane!

Quality

Fun

Durability

Appearance

I generally over research things and this purchase was no exception. I went with this plane because of the numerous positive reviews and I have to say that they were spot on. I give it 4.5 stars. As a career pilot, I thought I'd be confortable with starting in an electric, high performance RC jet but decided instead to start small and go with a 3-channel before messing with 4+ channel RC planes...wise decision! The Champ is a great starter plane and is extremely forgiving. I recommend using the "half-rate" control option on your first flight.

Everything arrived via UPS unscathed in the storage box. I also purchased the AC-double Li-Po battery charger, an extra battery and spare props. I missed the "free battery with purchase" so now I've got 3 batteries enough to fly for a VERY long time! Word to the wise: buy some clear packing tape & tape up the front-end below the prop (where the black patch is) b/c this is where your plane is going to take a beating when you crash. The prop spinner is rubber to absorb shock during a face plant and not bend the prop shaft (nice feature). The airplane fuselage is hollow & taped together. It's designed to be cut open to remove components when they break (motors, servos) so I added a little extra packing tape to the seams, the leading edges of the wings, wing tips, elevators and the top of the rudder. I also taped the top of the engine behind the prop b/c I somehow dinged it up during a botched landing. If you take these extra precautions, you'll be flying this awesome little plane for a long time to come & it should look almost new. The extra tape hasn't affected the flight characteristics either, so don't worry about losing performance.

Bottom line: IF you are looking to start RC'ing and want a great little plane, you can't go wrong here. I'd highly recommend!

Great little plane! My first time flying a RC plane, ready to go right out of the box. Had about 5 minor crashes before I figured it out, after that I got it flying good, did some loops, unpowered gliding and some tight turns. Took a little bite out of the elevator crashing into a tree and my canine buddy pounced on it after landing, breaking the wing, a little scotch tape and it was flying again. Very durable and a lot of fun, can't wait to upgrade to a bigger plane already.

This is the first RC plane I've owned and its a blast. I saw someone using it in a park and went out and bought one the same week. I'm self taught and it didn't take long to get the hang out it. Landing takes practice, I've gone through several sets of wheels and one set of wings but the replacements are cheap and easily accessible at my hobby store. All you need is a decent piece of property, a calm day and patience at first. Its all well worth it.

When I bought this plane I could see without even touching it that it looked fragile! It weighs almost nothing but that makes it very durable for crashes but the foam can be torn with just a careless mistake. This plane does not like wind at all, when I took this plane into a big indoor soccer field it flew like a Champ. I would recommend indoors but only if you have a big place. Easy to fly! Just be careful about any type of handling.

I have never flown a R/C plane before and fell in love with this one on teh first flight, even though it ended early because a house was in my way. I have flown many times since and hit trucks, trees, power lines and it keeps going. I have introduced several friends to the Champ and they loved it also. I gotta say though, as my stressful day at work winds down I start looking at the flag at Home Depo hoping there will be no wind so I can go get some therapy flying my airplane. Love it love it love it!

I have never flown before but I am hooked. This is the most fun you can buy for $89.00 and is more fun every time I fly. The first 2 times i flew I did have a crash landing but none since in 40 flights. If you want to extend your flight times to 30-45 minutes do the slight modification & use the 3.7V 500mah 15c battery the little extra weight makes it fly even better.

I have never flown an RC Plane before until today. I bought this little plane and it took 20 minutes to charge the battery. After that, it was all flying. Since I am a beginner, I had to get used to the controls and crashed this plane into a field, a barn and several times in a tree and there is NO DAMAGE. I got about 30 minutes of flight time on one battery running at about half throttle. Seeing how I purchased an additional battery, the second battery was charged and ready to go by the time the first one started dying. For less than $100, you cannot beat this little plane. I am tickled to death with this plane. It is a MUST HAVE!

What a great little plane and tough too! I never flew before but this little guy pretty much flies itself! I had a few hard landings but no damage. If you get the free extra battery use the extra hook tape to replace the one on the supplied battery cause it just doesn't stick. You'll find out when you land or loop. I had to wait a week for a calm day. There was still a 2 to 3 mph breeze and I would not recommend any more than that. In any case you won't be disappointed.

I got this for my birthday and I love it. It works great when it isn't windy. I wouldn't recommend getting it if you live in a windy climate. Other than that, it is one of the best presents I have ever been given. I learned to fly this in only about 10 minutes. The batteries don't take long to charge, but I would recommend getting 1-3 extra batteries because when you start flying it, you won't want to take any breaks to wait for the battery to charge.

Only one flight so far, in a little too much wind. Got the Champ in the air and away it headed downwind! After it got a couple hundred yards away it became obvious I wasn't going to be able to bring it back against the wind so I shut down the throttle and let it find its way back to earth. Just like the instructions suggest, it floated gracefully down and landed just fine. A passer-by saw it land and grabbed it for me, asking me where I got it. As he handed it to me, he said, "I can see one of those in my future!"

I'm a newbie to RC airplanes, and this is my one and only plane. This thing's going to be fun to fly when there's no wind.

The Champ is my first airplane. The first flight was a quick crash. So were many of the others. My Champ took a beating that made me flinch many times, but kept coming back for more. Repair parts are easy to find, and the little airplane is very easy to fix and will fly even with rather crude repairs. This was my first step into the hobby of RC aircraft and has caused a new addiction. I've had nothing but fun learning to fly with the little Champ and I am learning quickly. Don't wait, you're missing out on a lot of fun. GET THE CHAMP!

I got a Champ just before Christmas, and have been flying it both indoors and outdoors. The name of the plane says it all - it has been a real joy to fly. It will even fly in a little bit of wind. The only thing I see that could be improved with this plane is the overall durability of the parts, even though the fixes are pretty straightforward and often require just a little foam adhesive. However, I would like to see this plane built just a bit more durable so that the weakest areas (between the wings and fuselage and the tail assembly) were more stronger and a little less vulnerable to breakage. Maybe stronger, denser foam would do the trick for a plane marketed at beginners and indoor fliers. That one issue aside, I love my Champ.

I purchased the Champ from my local hobby shop during the summer of 2009. I had some previous formal flight training on a nitro powered trainer plane prior to this purchase. The Champ has greatly enhanced my flight training because of it's
ease of operation and damage resistant design. I usually take it to my flying club to warm up with before I fly my large RC planes. It's a low stress fun to fly airplane. If someone follows the advice of the manual and powers down when they get in trouble on their first flights, they can indeed teach theirself to fly RC with no previous experience and minimal damage to the Champ. I have recommended the Champ to several of my friends and they are happy with it. Now for the cons: I had to replace my original motor and gear box assembly in the spring of 2010 because the motor went bad. I do not recommend this to the novice beginner. I have been building models most of my life but proceeded very carefully. The manual says that you can oil the motor when neccessary but gives no details on what oil to use or how to go about it. I called the "Hobby Zone" rep last week for advice on this and the person gave me the wrong advice! The rep told me to hold the plane nose up and apply some oil to the propeller shaft and let it run into the motor. That is all wrong! So, it would be good if the manual were updated in the maintenance section or at least have the reps give the correct advice!

If you're new to RC aircraft and looking to purchase your first model, the Champ is the one for you. It practically flies itself. The Champ lacks aileron control, but because of its design, it automatically adjusts itself after making rudder corrections. It's super lightweight, so it's capable of very slow flight, and if you do crash it, its lack of mass/inertia keeps the damage to a minimum. If you do manage to damage the Champ, it is easily repaired with some CA/gorilla glue and some scotch tape. My wife wrecked it on asphalt and tore the rudder off, but I had it repaired and back in the sky in about an hour. This was one of my first RC aircraft, I have since expanded my fleet, but of all of my models, this one is the most durable, and I find myself coming back to it over and over again. I put larger wheels on it, put in a 250mah battery, and replaced the stock motor with one from the UM T-28. I'll probably add aileron control at some point. All in all, this little Champ is a great plane for beginners, but isn't something you'll leave collecting dust once you advance to more complicated RC models.

I'm a beginner to the world of RC aircraft. I purchased a Cessna Airbus and was not impressed with it's perfomance or durability. So, I researched for another beginner model. I read the reviews on the Champ and decided to purchase it. When I received it I was immediately impressed with the packaging, the aircraft, and the manual. After reading the manual thoroughly I took the plane outside, eager to see if it did what I read in the other reviews. All I can say is it did, and more ! It flew and handled superbly for a beginner flyer. I'm just glad that I ordered 3 extra batteries ! The Champ is very easy to fly and very forgiving. Anyone thinking about it should order it now.

I'm new to RC flight and bought a Radian electric powered glider. Where I fly is on a hllltop with not a lot of easy landing options for beginners. I can fly it OK when it is up in the air, but don't even dare to land it, so was tired of getting somebody to help me land.

Somebody recommended the Champ, and it's been great fun. Flying in the OC near the coast it's difficult this time of year to find no wind conditions unless you go in the morning, although the breeze is only 5-10 in the late afternoon when I fly. The Champ has been great as although it is a bit challenging in these conditions and took a lot of crashes into outhouses, cars, tarmac, ground, etc., it has not sustained any significant damage.

Great plane. I am a beginner to flying rc planes and this plane is excellent.

Pros: I've seen a lot of reviews saying this plane is not durable. To oppose that, I crashed my plane nose first full speed into the ground 5 times, and the fuselage stayed together. The only difference was that the paint seemed to fall of a bit on the front. Also, this plane is good for learning to fly. There are no ailerons, which is good. Rolling can result in lots of crashes. This teaches you the basics.

Cons: There aren't much cons I can think of. Some things I can say are that you know the batteries that come with the plane? They aren't very good quality ones. So don't use them. Quickly replace them with alkalines. Also, the propeller breaks quite easily. Finally (this didn't have any effect on mine but it MIGHT possibly happen to yours), the fuselage is attached by 4 small pieces of tape. Perhaps if hobby zone made it a bit more connected I would feel less nervous. Or maybe it is there to make it easy to upgrade stuff.

Advice: Three pieces of advice I'd like to give are:

1. Upgrade the propeller to a prop saver. The prop as i said is really fragile. Remember- no matter how many times you curse after having to put back those rubber bands in the prop saver, you are saving lots of cash.

2. Replace the batteries with alkaline batteries.

3. Add some more pieces of tape to the fuselage.

This plane is worth every penny!

When I was a kid, my father built a gas-powered balsa wood plane but never attempted to fly it for fear of crashing on the maiden voyage. For years I had in my head: "planes are impossible to fly". Then I saw the Champ, read the reviews, and took a chance. I have never looked back. The Champ is inexpensive and almost flies itself, so the worry of "loss" I had in my head was mitigated. Durability is great because it's so light that when it does crash, it doesn't hurt itself (if on grass). My Champ has had at least 10 hard crashes and still flies like new. It's amazing.

After learing the basics on the Champ, I went to the more agile UltraMicro ParkZone T-28 and ParkZone F4U Wildcat. Wow, I can't believe I am flying these less than two months into my new favorite hobby. The UM T-28 is a great next plane.

I still fly the Champ and love every minute of it. Whenever an "old-timer" from the balsa/gas days sees it, they are amazed how clean and easy it is to use.

If you've been holding back thinking you can't fly, you owe it to yourself to try the Champ. There is only one thing that will stop/ discourage you: WIND. It has to be DEAD CALM for your first couple of flights!!!

I just got into RC planes this year. My son bought me this Champ for Christmas. My wife also bought me the Park Flyer J-3 Piper Cub HCAA2500. This Champ has to be THE BEST dollar for dollar airplane on the market. I have flown it at least 30 times and the worst damage I've done is break the prop shaft, unlike the J-3, which has less than 15 minutes fly time and has needed repairing 4 times. I would highly recommend the Champ to anyone who just wants to really enjoy a fun flying experience. This plane is like an old Timex: it takes a beating and keeps on repeating!

This plane is great. It does everything you could want and then some. Although my motor broke (easy repair), and my friend's servo broke (also easy repair), it is a great plane. The only downsides are that the 2-blade prop is somewhat weak, and the foam breaks fairly easily.

I bought the Champ a couple of days ago from my local store after not flying for a while. I have had some very minor issues but have been managing to work them out. One issue is a constant pull to the left that trimming my transmitter isn't helping. The second is having to reset the gearbox as it was set off center. Overall, it’s a great plane and fun to fly, but I will suggest buying plenty of props and prop shafts because if it does go down nose first, they are the first to go. I am also replacing the main fuselage as the nose is pretty banged up. But even then it still flies great. I would recommend it to anyone from a seasoned pilot to someone just starting off because it’s that easy to fly in winds under 10 mph.

Best R/C ever! I fly it every day. All my friends want one. I am 14 and got this for my birthday. I did not read the instructions; I just figured out which sticks did what and flew it. It took me a good 3 minutes to get the hang of it, and I did multiple tricks. I even did one the instructions said you couldn't do, like loop the loops. Awesome R/C plane!

My kids bought this for me for Father's Day. Wow! I'm impressed at the power, performance, and quality. It's not "easy" to fly, in my opinion. It endured several crashes, broken wings, and scrapes until I got the hang of it enough to consistently have fun. No problem, though - some Elmer's glue and tape and we're back in the air! It's working out as a great trainer for me to get into this hobby.

I'm pretty new to R/C planes. I started out with a Super Cub and I sucked. I never could keep it in the air for more than 2 minutes. I've seen out of the box flight videos of the Champ, and I thought I should give flying another chance. I received it, opened it, and was flying immediately. I can now do loops, barrel rolls, fly upside down, and take off and land with out crashing. EASIEST PLANE TO FLY.

They really got it right with the little Champ. It works as advertised, and many of the nice features aren't even mentioned in the product description. First of all, shipping was inexpensive. Total purchase price less than $100. Second, excellent packaging. Nothing damaged and everything needed to fly this plane was in the box. I greatly appreciated the excellent instruction manual. It is clearly written and well-illustrated. It tells you how to bind the plane, if needed, adjust modes, use the trim settings, charge the battery, replace a prop, replace a prop shaft, troubleshoot, etc. Actually the plane arrives bound to the transmitter. I followed all instructions and got a dozen good flights right away. I hand-launched over grass/dirt and even though the plane sometimes flipped over on landing, no damage. I used high rate and had no problems. I like the feel of the included transmitter, a FOUR channel transmitter, and look forward to getting a bind-n-fly T-28 and Mig-15 to use with it. Here is a caveat, of sorts: this little plane is very light so watch for wind. I flew it in a gentle wind and it had a tendency to get away, until I learned how to prevent that. A lot of thought went into this product. It even has right and down thrust built in. It's a great package! I'm very pleased!

I ordered this plane on a Wednesday, chose the cheapest option for shipping, and it arrived on Friday! I could not believe it. After charging it and reading the manual, I went out to fly it. I did a ground take off and circled (I was on a baseball field). But when it came back to me, I had to pull up sharply to avoid the backstop, and it stalled right into a pine tree. It just rolled off the branches and was fine. Then I flew for ten more minutes. After two days, I set it on high mode and was flying loops and figure eights. It’s a great little plane for beginners and very tough. One thing I would recommend is looking for a wall charger because the battery charger is a good idea, but you will chug through batteries. Overall, this plane scores a 5/5. I would really tell every beginner to buy one.

It is a breeze to fly. I laid a plywood sheet out, and I put the plane on that. It got off in 6 feet at full throttle. I flew it in 15 mile per hour wind, which I don't recommend at all, but I was cocky and way too self-assured that I could do it, and I did. I let some else fly it, and he had no problem. Someone else slammed it into a wall, and that was the end of the horizontals, verticals, and one wing. With new parts from the local hobby store and some very expensive styrofoam glue, it is as good as new! Another thing I like is it actually looks like an Aeronca Champ. Be sure you do not fly on a day with lots of thermals, and good luck.

This is my first radio controlled plane ever. I flew it the first time during some mild winds, about 6-8 mph. I must have crashed it 20 times until I figured out how to control it. Nothing broke on it until my 4-year-old son was pretending to fly it and broke the vertical stabilizer. I glued it on with some hot glue and flew it again as if new. After 3 days and about 1 hour of actual practice, I was doing little loops and flying like a champ. It took a lot of abuse until i learned to fly it, and the minor damage caused by crashes was only cosmetic.

This was my first RC plane. It’s super light and glides really nicely. It had more power than I thought it would. It’s definitely only made for zero wind days. I beat it up pretty well, having never flown and not having a ton of room. I just taped it back together. I broke off both wings and the tail rudder. I just taped it back together, and it flew like new. : )

When I first saw it over the internet, I thought it was a cute little plane. I always wanted to fly RC. After I bought it, I was a little disappointed about the plane. it was not as durable as I thought. I crashed it and broke it after two days, and it was grounded for a month. I found out it is better to replace the main wing and not to glue it. One, after I glued the wing it was not as strong and there was more weight on that side. Two, when replacing the wing, use Scotch double sided tape. After replacing the wing, I was learning how to have a nice landing on the the wheels in the grass without hitting the nose when the wing hit a tree and came off with no damage. Great plane, love it.

I finally took it out on a calm January day with 24 degrees and calm winds. I have never flown an RC plane before, so I was nervous. My first flight up, it kept flying to the left. The plane started getting away from me, so I did what the instructions said and let off the throttle and let it do it’s thing. It landed in some high brush. On the second flight, I adjusted the trim and took off from the ground beautifully. It still wanted to veer left, but I had more confidence and was able to turn to the right, then I flew it in for a perfect landing. For the 3rd flight, I adjusted the trim again. It felt good flying. My wife was proud of me. Even from the truck where she was sitting, she noticed the big smile on my face. I loved the idea that I was actually flying an RC plane, then I brought it in for another perfect landing. This plane will actually land itself, but you still have to guide it in when flying half throttle. I got four flights out of one charge. I think I have the RC bug now. I love it. I’m 49 years old, and it made me feel like a kid again.

Before today, my experience consisted of about 10 minutes playing around on a simulator in a hobby store. I had this plane up in the air in less than 2 minutes; it is so easy and fun to fly! I had several rough landings and crashes, but it’s so lightweight that the momentum (based on mass and velocity) is so low that there was no damage at all. I can't wait to get more advanced planes, but I foresee this one getting frequent use for a long time.

I just got my Champ the other day and took it out to the soccer field. Awesome little plane. Mine came with two extra batteries. I used all three the first time out. If you have enough room, there is no reason to ever crash this plane. Keep it 50 - 100 feet up and you will be fine. I've lost it in the sun and got turned around bunch of times. Just let go of the controls and it will right itself. I just ordered more batteries and a key chain camera. I am thinking about upgrading to a more powerful motor. Oh yeah, tape the nose with packing tape, just in case!

I got my Champ today! I just completed the maiden flight in the dark. This was my first time ever flying an RC plane. It flies beautifully. Initially, it was a little tricky. but after a few minutes, it got into a nice level flight. My first landing was a glassy smooth roll out. After two more successful take-offs, cruises, and landings, I attempted a loop and successfully did it! I absolutely love this plane. It is a joy to fly. I look forward to many more flights. Thank you, Hobby Zone, for making such an awesome RC plane for beginners. I am hooked! :-)

I recently purchased The Champ and found that it is a great plane for beginners. Everything you need comes in the box. The Champ flies very smoothly but does not have that much power for acrobatics. This plane has fantastic flight characteristics and is very durable. I picked one up recently to demo for an aerospace engineering senior design class that I am a TA (teaching assistant) for and also to have a fun little zip plane to fly in local parks. This plane handles light to medium wind gusts well but really shines in zero-wind or indoor. (We fly the senior design planes in a large sports arena dome.) It is very easy to control; it loops like a breeze, and even without roll control, it can fly inverted for short distances... if you can roll out. It flies fast enough to pull great aerobatics but slow enough to "land" in deep astroturf.

It is very, very durable. It has so far survived three nose-dives into grass and astroturf under full power with only mild scuffing of the nose. A very painful dive (after a bad loop) did manage to break the wing, but a strap of masking tape and she was back in the air - with NO loss of stability or ability to control the plane. This is a great little trainer plane but really fun for more experienced pilots to let loose and try dangerous tricks with little risk of irreparable damage.

After not flying R/C for over 30 years (last radio was a Kraft Sport Series), my nephew had been flying for a while and invited me to the model field. I was amazed by the electric models and the new radios! I dug the old 60 powered Das Ugly Stick out of the attic, but then thought I should buy something small to learn to fly again that I could fly at my house. The Champ proved to be a great little flyer. It almost has too much power! I have flown it now for several weeks, usually at dawn. It is a great little plane that is forgiving and docile, lots of fun and most enjoyable. A big bang for the buck!

I like how cheap the aircraft is, which makes it a great beginners 3 channel airplane. This is my first true RC airplane that is not air hogs. The best part is that the parts are cheap, so if you destroy the wing, it's only $10 at my local hobby store. My friend is an avid flyer who flies the Super Cub, which is great too. I bought the Champ after I had crashed an EDF F86 (not a good plane for a 1st timer). I took the Champ out of the box, charged the battery, and was right in the air. I had no problems for my first few flights. I hand launched, trimmed the aircraft, then was doing medium-altitude passes, loops, and hammer turns in a matter of minutes. The only crash I had came when the wind picked up. I had a strong enough head wind that at full power, the Champ had no forward momentum. I turned to try to get out of the wind, and the wing folded back on itself. Other than the low tolerance for wind, it is an exceptional plane, very beginner friendly, and fun to fly. If you want to learn how to fly, this is an excellent first plane.

I am 76 years old. I had in the past tried a couple of 2 channel planes. Bad idea. I now have two Champs and use one as a back-up. I really like this plane, and it gives you confidence to fly. Yes, I have crashed, not turning soon enough on slow speed flight and fighting the wind. It will take a little wind and gust, but I have always been able to get it down when needed, a couple of times in a tree. Just get out your glue and you are ready to go again.

The flight battery was fully charged in about 20 minutes, which gave me time to read the instructions - something I don't usually do, but should.

I took the cute little yellow airplane into my yard and hand-launched it into the air, with a slight on-again off-again wind of maybe 3-5 mph. The plane wasn't too bothered by the wind, but that big ol' Elderberry tree got in the way (funny how trees can do that...) and I flew right into it. I managed to get the plane out with a couple broom handles taped together, but in doing so, I damaged the wing where it attaches to the fuselage. A bit of tape and a "hail Mary", and it was back in the sky as if nothing happened.

I would recommend this plane to anyone wishing to get into R/C flying and also to experienced R/C pilots who want to fly something inexpensive and fun that doesn't require a huge open space.

I'm going to get a new wing, as they're only $12, but in the meantime, I'll keep having fun with my slightly damaged Champ. Big fun for small money!

I bought this as a birthday present for my 14-year-old son. He's very familiar with R/C cars and trucks. I thought this would be great but was hesitant on the claims of how well it worked. I'm used to the starter R/C planes of old that never worked. Anyway, for those reading this review, the plane works as advertised. We were exceptionally happy with it. Within 10 minutes, we were flying just fine. By the second flight, we were doing loops and landing with ease. The packaging is great. This plane can’t handle more than light wind conditions, but other than that, it is really easy to fly. I am very happy with the purchase and would most definitely recommend this.

I bought this at a local dealer. It took awhile for the weather to cooperate so that I could fly it. The wait was well worth it. This little plane is absolutely the best and the most fun I have had in years. In my long life, I have built many balsa wood planes, watched many of them crash and be destroyed, and ultimately left the hobby due to expense and disappointment. Many, many years later thought I would try again. I am so glad I did. This little Champ has helped make a dream of mine come true.

I also purchased the Super Cub, but I am trying to learn on this Champ first. This plane will fly so slowly that you can walk faster than it moves, but it also can fly very fast and cover a lot of ground in seconds.

I have flown this plane in gusty winds; it struggles in high winds, but winds under 10 mph are great. It is best to have little or no wind, however some gusts are normal and this Champ handles them well, which is surprising because it is so small.

The power this little plane produces will amaze you, and the beating it can take and keep flying is awesome. I have had it in a tree - no damage, have nosed dived it many times - no damage, and hard landings - no damage. It truly is named appropriately: the CHAMP.

If you want to learn to fly RC planes, this plane is the best investment you could ever make. Buy one. You will not be sorry.

It is perfect for the beginner or intermediate flyer; even an experienced flyer would love this little plane. Indeed, it is a true Champ.

This is my fourth plane. All of them claimed, “You can teach yourself to fly.” While I crashed the others, I really was able to fly this one. I was about to give up because it was getting expensive. Then I saw this plane, the Champ, and thought I would try one last time. I am glad I did. It is a lot of fun. To any beginners out there: this is the plane for you. It’s great. Just make sure you read the book. It’s very helpful!

First Plane and I Love It!

This was my first plane. I was nervous about flying it, but it was so easy to use straight out of the box! I love the fact that the charger runs on 4 AA batteries, as this means you can charge when you are out at the park. I love radio controlled planes and this is my first plane. Where were things like this when I was a kid?!

The plane has a motor that can fling the craft into the sky, and the plane will go into a nice glide when the motor is switched off. I have landed and flown my craft over 20 times now and it’s still in great condition.

I am just about to buy a new tail set. I didn't break this whilst flying; I broke it by putting the plane in the boot of the car. Something slammed into the plane and bent the rear tail wing. But even with that damage, it still flies well.

I can not recommend this plane enough.
It is easy to fly, and it goes as fast or slow as you want to fly.
You can even get it to hover in a oncoming wind!

Great plane; great fun.

I bought the Champ to get back into R/C after a 30 year hiatus. This is a fun, easy-to-fly trainer as long as the wind is not more than 3 mph. Bear in mind that wind affects all micros. However, if you want a ready-to-fly, easy on the pocket, entry level plane, the Champ is it. I am teaching my 10-year-old daughter to fly on the Champ, and she loves it. You cannot go wrong with this little plane.

I went to the hobby store with my six year old just to look around. She said "buy it," and I ended up buying this plane. I charged the battery on the way to the park, saw an empty baseball field and gave it a try. WOW! It was totally worth the money. As a beginner, it was easy. I hand launched it and did a rolling take-off roll on the dirt. I let go of the controls and the plane just went in circles. I did some really great landings. I am very happy with this plane.

Great First Airplane

Appearance

This was my first RC Airplane. It is a great plane for a beginner because it is a 3 channel high-wing trainer, and it could not be any easier to fly. It has very forgiving flight characteristics and self-corrects. It can do limited acrobatics and is bright yellow which makes it easy to see from far away, and, best of all, is it does not require a large space in which to fly it. Your local school parking lot or playing field is enough space. Also, when the plane does get damaged, it is very easy to repair or replace the parts. If there is a negative, it is that you cannot fly the plane in any kind of wind. Flying in anything over 3 mph winds is really pushing your luck. Overall though, it is a great plane for a beginner.

I just took the maiden flight of my new Champ. I'm completely new to the hobby, having only flown an Air Hog plane. I just followed the instructions, and she flew just as she was designed to and survived through two batteries. The throttle did cut out twice with fresh batteries, which somewhat concerns me, but I was able to save it both times. This baby will pull up in an instant. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to get their feet wet in the hobby without breaking the bank doing so. Also, order your spare batteries and accessories at the same time you order your plane to avoid paying extra shipping fees! Can't wait to fly it again!

My cousin had never flown a plane before, so we picked up this plane. My cousin loves the plane. It is great for beginners. I have been flying since I was seven years old, so I knew which plane would suit my cousin best. I gave it a 4 for durability because it is not able to hold the lightest camera, and when the wind picked up during a flight the plane crashed in to the tree splitting the wing in half and damaging the rudder. Fortunately, we were able to replace the wing and fix the rudder. Nevertheless, I would not recommend flying in much wind unless you have experience flying in it, other than that, the plane is awesome!

I've been an RC enthusiast for many years. I never really considered buying a Champ but decided to give it a try. It is a great little plane for simple, basic, stress-free backyard flying. After cracking up a big plane or two on a bad day at the field, it's a great confidence builder.

Mine has had a few rough bumps. I broke the wing, cracked the tail, and separated the stabilizer flying it in windy conditions where I shouldn't have been. That's my fault, not the plane's. Replacing the wing was very easy and a dab of Gorilla Glue fixed the other problems.

When I finally destroy or wear this one out, I'll be buying another one. It's a great little plane that makes training beginners easy!

I love to fly this little plane whenever I have time. I just repaired it last night after flying into a tree. It was not difficult to repair, and I was back outside flying it on our new field within a hour, unlike a bigger plane that could take days to repair. I was flying with my friend, and he is a very good pilot. He told me that he is going to get one for himself (I let him fly mine) because it was so relaxing to fly, unlike his turbine jets. This is a very good plane for beginners, but it is good to have someone experienced to help you out along the way. I got this plane when I first turned 11; I am 14 now, and it hasn't let me down yet. I recommend this plane for anyone with a little experience and who knows how to effectively use the rudder, ailerons, and elevators.

Very Fun - Don't Give Up

Appearance

My kids and I had flown various kinds of Air Hogs since they were young. I decided to give a "real" airplane a try. I did research online on the best starter plane and finally decided on the Champ. It was a Christmas gift, so it was in the middle of a long, cold, and WINDY Indiana winter. I knew I couldn't fly it in huge gusts, so I waited for a calm winter day which was maybe around 10-15 mph and of course bitter cold. On the first flight, it took off, the wind caught, blew it out of range of the controller, and it ended up stuck in the top of a 50-foot pine tree. The kids and I threw snowballs at it for a couple of hours to try and knock it out of the tree, but with no luck. It got dark, and we went home. We came back the next day and finally knocked it out of the tree by flinging a basketball at it. The tail was torn to bits, but luckily, I had ordered a spare tail assembly. I put the new tail on, and even though it was a bit windy and still winter, I just had to see if it would fly after my repairs. Again the plane took off; it was maybe 15 feet off the ground when the wind blew it straight down into the pavement. The main wing broke, and the brand new tail was jacked up. I put it in the box, basically forgot about it, and there it sat for over a year and a half.

It turns out one of my wife's cousins is into RC planes, and he was telling me about his new plane, so I told him about my Champ. He offered to help me fix it, but I wasn't as excited about it anymore. I had lost interest and was very busy over the summer. After all the kids' activities died down towards the end of the summer, my wife's cousin sent me a picture of his newest plane. I had some spare time and thought, "Well, maybe I will see if I can get that dang plane going." I was interested in it again.

About 2-3 weeks ago, I had nothing going on during a weekend and noticed it was completely calm outside, not to mention sunny and warm. I decided I was finally going to sit down and see if I could successfully fly the Champ. I did not buy any more spare parts; I just taped what was broken back together with packing tape. I went out to a big open field and tried getting it back in the air. On the first flight, it crashed pretty hard after 5 seconds, but nothing broke. The second flight was about 3 seconds; it cartwheeled and crashed. Still, nothing looked bad. I noticed it was pulling hard to the right, so I gave it some left trim. My next flight was a thing of beauty. I hand launched it, and it took off as straight as an arrow. I flew it in circles until the battery cut out. I then let it glide safely to the ground unscathed. I was hooked! When I bought the Champ, I bought three spare batteries, so I have 4 in total. If I go really easy on the throttle, (less than half) I can get over 12 minute flights. After that first battery, I put the second one in. That flight was the same as the first; this time without any crashes. It was the same with the 3rd battery. I got down to my 4th battery, and I thought I had a sure handle on it. I started getting a bit fancy, doing some loops and such. There is an important rule one should stick to: Always fly two mistakes high. On my 4th battery, while trying to do a loop too low to the ground, I did a hard nose dive and broke the main wing.

It wasn't a problem. I just grabbed some more packing tape and was back up in the air in no time. For the last 2-3 weeks or so, I have gone out for at least an hour or so every single day it is relatively calm out and I am free and do some flying with the Champ. I must say I have come a long way in these last few weeks. I am now doing multiple loops and my wife's cousin told me how to do inverted flight on a 3-channel, so I've done a few inverted flights. I've had so much fun now that I finally have some decent weather in which to fly.

Just give it time. You can figure out flying the Champ. Unless your electronics go bad, you can fix it with tape and glue. My Champ was torn to shreds, and I fixed it all with packing tape. I am already looking for my next plane!

My first RC airplane was a Cox Sportavia with a Kraft 2-channel radio in 1977. This Champ is as much fun as the Cox was when I was 24. I took my 84-year-old father to the park with me yesterday to fly it. He flew it for 5 minutes on the first battery, 10 minutes on the second battery, and 15 minutes on the third battery. I asked him if he wanted one. He said, "We will see." GREAT AIRPLANE AND FLYER.

The Best Way to Learn!

Quality

Fun

Value

Durability

Appearance

The Champ is by far, hands down, the best way to learn how to fly. It jumps into the air from the ground, and hand launching is a breeze. It takes a huge beating, and replacement parts are easy to find and come very cheap. It is forgiving, and it's even easier to learn how to fly this thing when you start with the dual rates on. After a little time and practice, the Champ can be made to do some pretty sweet aerobatic maneuvers, which is remarkable for a 3-channel platform! With batteries coming so cheap as well, a good rotation of batteries through the charger means that you can fly as long as you have the energy. This plane is a blast for anyone looking to get into the hobby!

I bought this for my 11-year-old son, who had some experience flying the indoor small helicopters, but was frustrated at how hard it is to control their flight. I wanted something he could fly easily that had 10 or more minutes of fly time. The first time out, we reviewed the instructions, did a pre-flight check of controls, and everything worked right out of the box. He held the control, and I gave it a light throw and off it went, flying all around the soccer field. We started with the control set to beginner/easy. After about 30 seconds of flying, we set the throttle to about 30%, and it flew for over 15 minutes of continuous climbs, dives, loops, and banking - all done by a first-time flyer. The plane is fun and easy to fly, and I flew it so high I could hardly even see it. Even in light breezes, it is easy to control. A few days later, it was quite breezy. Even so, it flew fine but took a little more concentration. It did land hard and snapped the wing, but some glue and packing tape fixed it so it's not even noticeable; it has been flying fine since. Expect to hit something eventually and have to buy a new wing or tail section. Just be thankful the parts are reasonably priced! What a blast, and my son is really enjoying it.

Okay, I'll be honest. I have been flying RC planes since I was a kid. I have always been into gas power and scale aircraft. I have seen this plane in the hobby shop for many years now. I have always thought it was child's play and a joke that a hobby shop full of gas powered scale aircraft would even sale something like the Champ.

Well, I was looking for something small and easy to fly in my front yard, so I started revering the champ online and decided to give it a try.I was amazed at the price. 89 dollars is CHEAP in the RC world! So I broke down, sucked up my pride, and bought one. I got it home and was surprised how light the aircraft is. I charged the battery, which took about 10 min. I went through my front door, threw it into the wind, and wow I was surprised! This little aircraft has enough power to fly in a 5mph wind. It's by far the most stable aircraft I have ever flown. I have around 200 flights on this little plane. It was well worth the money, and it is, by far, the most fun plane I have ever flown! I have taught several of my friends how to fly, and they, too, have bought their own Champ! This plane is the perfect aircraft for someone with no experience and who wants to get into the hobby! If you have a good field with a lot of soft grass and adequate room to fly, you don't even need an instructor to get in the air and bring it back safely! This is by far one of my favorite planes in my collection. I fly mine in my front yard all the time. My neighbors love to see it in the air. One of my neighbors bought one for herself, and we tie streamers to the tails and dogfight!

So for all you thinking about getting into the hobby, without a doubt go buy this plane. You will not be disappointed. For those experienced pilots looking for that fun front yard flyer, suck up the pride and buy this plane! It's not a joke, and it will not leave anybody disappointed.

I am brand new to flying but have had enough simulator experience to be confident in what to do. I bought this plane based on high customer and professional reviews.

I did everything wrong.

I just finished my first flight, indoor and out. It was too small of a space inside and very windy with plenty of obstructions outside. I bounced off the back of the building, hit a light post (and recovered to continue flying), and hit beams inside the building. And the plane did GREAT!

While I wouldn't recommend making my rookie mistakes, this plane held up great. I am charging to fly again as I write this. Buy this plane without any hesitation of performance and durability. To bring it down in the high wind, I simply shut off the engine, and it hovered right into my hand!

What a blast!

I am writing this review not only as an amateur RC guy but as a commercial pilot/ instructor with 5000 hours of flying real planes. That being said, buy it. I see a lot of reviews from parents and grandparents wanting something for their young aspiring aviator; this plane is it. My first experience some years ago ended with a mangled ball of balsa wood and tissue paper. After I received this plane as a gift, I spent a few hours flying a simulator on the iPad. The first flight went well, and I now have about 10 hours of actual flying time on the plane. The only damage was when it recently flew out of range (my fault), and the wing was broken in the resulting crash. $15 later, I was back flying. Really, the only downside is that it has to be really calm wind to fly this plane; otherwise, it's great. At 50% power, the batteries last around 12 minutes. The included transmitter is good for at least 75 yards, which is plenty for this small/ slow of a plane.

In conclusion, buy a Champ. It will scratch the itch you have always had. I can't wait to try the Cub next.

Highly recommend the Champ

This review is about the Hobbyzone RTF Champ. I have about 30 years of experience flying gas and R/C models. I was looking for a reasonably durable, fun, slow-flying model to fly in my yard. The Champ met and exceeded all expectations.

The model is capable of surprisingly long flights when throttled back. On one calm evening at dusk, I had a 25-minute flight using gentle turns and 1/4 throttle. A more common flight time would be 10-12 minutes if there is any turbulence or if more throttle is used for maneuvers.

The flight characteristics are gentle. The power to weight ratio is surprisingly good, and the model can climb out steeply if desired. Stalls are very gentle. Though not an aerobatic model, limited inverted flight is possible. My impression is that this model is made for simple fun flying, and it excells at that.

I find that the landing gear is not very tolerant of concrete or firm landings in grass, so despite the recommendations in the book, I recover my model my hand on each landing rather than subject the airplane to a landing on my driveway or in the grass. I think this saves some wear on the model. Be mindful of the limited range of the transmitter. It is a park flyer, after all. The radio has plenty of range for normal flying, but if you do like I did and see how high the airplane will climb, once you get 500-600 feet away, the airplane will be in free flight.

I bought this airplane to fly for fun, to just fly low and slow in the back yard and relax with, and it exceeds my expectations. It can fly low and slow, or accelerate at a surprisingly good clip with its' powerful motor. I usually fly mine with the limited control throw transmitter feature engaged, just to make things smoother and slower.

Great airplane, reasonable price, pegs the fun meter.

Good 3-ch "street" flyer

I used to be into RC 15 years ago, mostly gas but a few electrics. I want to get back into but figured a micro would be good because I could fly it in my yard and not have to trudge off to the club field.

+ Very durable. Unless you burn it in, it won't break. Cut throttle and if it hits anything, it will be fine.
+ Good power. Climbs out easily. Hit the throttle to get out of trouble.
+ Looks, I'm not big into RTF/ARF being a former kit builder but it does look nice.
+ Flies a long time when throttled back.
+ Just plane fun to rip around the sky.
+ Pretty easy to fly when you cut the throttle back a tad.
- 3-ch. Yes, three channels are great for starting but if I was HobbyZone or ParkZone I would make a 4-ch slower flyer.
- Actually unrealistically overpowered. A real cub would never climb out as quickly as this does. But, throttle it back and it will fly realistically.
- Not quite slow enough to be a yard flyer (unless you have a really big yard). I can fly it in an area that includes my yard, the street in front of my house, and the yard across the street.
- Really quick when the throttle is all the way up. You have to be quick on the stick to keep it in a small area.

I really wish I had a 4-ch slow-flyer so I could do things like hammerhead stalls and immelmans and such. But, to have a cheap plane I can fly around in front of my house is a really nice thing to have even if only 3ch.

What I like most with this plane is to throttle it back 1/2 way and try to fly it about head height around the street working on my precision. It's a lot harder than you think to make a nice smooth turn without gaining or losing altitude.

This plane is the first model airplane i have ever had and I will tell you this thing is a HOOT to fly! Though the controls may be just a bit touchy, it is a very great plane. Another thing i love about this plane is how easy it is to change out broken parts (a.k.a for me the receiver board). Overall, i highly recomend this plane to first time flyers or anyone who wants a cheap, fun and simple plane:)

I was a bit surprised at the small size, but as soon as I took off I knew this plane would be fun.

All I can say is that this little plane has been a blast to fly and is surprisingly durable. Great plane to train on and build confidence for a young or new flyer.

I am a Real Airplane Pilot. I have been flying models for years - Airplanes and Helicopters. This is a very impressive model for what you pay. I like to have it around to introduce R/C Aviation to anyone that wants to try a hand at it - cheap to repair and fun to fly.

For my first plane this is what I chose. It is inexpensive and when you are a first time flyer you will probably break something. Parts are easy and affordable so go ahead and have a blast. I am!!

I am 55 years old, been flying rc for about 10 years. I bought the Champ because of its ratings. IT IS NO TRAINER. Take offs are not that easy, it climbs and stalls too easy, it has to be flown with the throttle even at low rates, after it is trimmed it's not too bad, landings are so so. If you want a trainer, EMBER 2 is the ticket; on low rates you can't crash it. The Champ is also pretty fast. It will get away from you. It can take a hit with little to no damage, flight time is very good, 10-15 min. If you want a trainer, EMBER 2. The Champ would be the next step up.

This is pretty much the most BASIC plane out there, yet it is one of my favorites! I fly it every day that I have free time. The only down side of this plane is that it CAN NOT handle ANY wind AT ALL. I would say anything over 7-8MPH winds would cause you to loose control. But
