  • F-86 Sabre 64mm EDF PNP with Vector Flight Stabilization System

The North American F-86 Sabre was the first US fighter aircraft designed using the German research that showed a 35 degree thin swept wing gave superior transonic performance. The Sabre was the equal of its well-known Korean War opponent, the Mig-15. It was the highest production US jet fighter ever made, with total production of 9860 units. It was manufactured in many variants, and the Navy FJ fighter was a modified version suited for carrier operations. It was the first fighter equipped with air-to-air missiles, and later versions were supersonic in a dive. All in all, it is a classic.

While Arrows has introduced a number of EDF jets, from the hand tossed Viper to the high-end MiG-29 and F-15, our engineering team began with the Marlin 64mm EDF, still the best EDF trainer made. The F-86 is the successor to the Marlin with fixed gear for strength and the same full 5-channel performance with flaps. The plane has excellent performance and agility at high speed and stability during landings.

The smooth 12-blade 64mm fan sounds more realistic than older 5-blade 64mm units others use. Because of the more powerful 2840-3150KV motor and a 40 amp ESC, this plane is capable of top performance even though it is larger than other 64mm F-86's, with maneuvers such as rolling, diving, looping, and inverted flight. The quick release landing gear allow for fast transition from ground take-off to hand lauch and facilitates easy transport.

The EPO foam is tough and at 820mm length and 860mm wingspan, it is a perfect 1/10 scale of the original full-scale plane. The contours, panel lines, and markings are highly accurate and realistic. The special water-based paint has a very realistic look. Assembly is fast and simple using only a few screws.

Get ready for a new experience in EDF's with the Arrows 64mm F-86 Sabre.

    Features

    • 12-bladed 64mm EDF, 2840-3150KV motor, 40A ESC, 9g servos

A few months ago I ordered the bird from Hong Kong. This bird flies sweet. Has landing gear , so you do not have to hand launch. Flaps and rudder are also included. It flies similar to the larger 80mm version from free wing . Has great detail, and it has great vertical performance on a 4s 3300 50 or higher c battery. I should have waited for hobbyzone since I paid more for mine from overseas.

I am not a jet person but this F-86 just looked so good I had to have it. The assembly was one of the very best I have seen. Everything fit perfectly and it was completed in less time than charging the battery. This morning was the maiden and holy smoke it flew great. The flaps make it so sweet for landing and slow flying. I strongly recommend grabbing this F-86 while it is so affordable because it is underpriced for the quality.

I already own the Marlin and have found it to be a great beginner EDG. However, the Sabre may give it a run for its money, mostly because of the Vector control system. Assembly is quick, the little side pockets to slip the aileron and flap lines through is incredibly helpful and there is sufficient room in the fuselage for your receiver and for my purposes, a BEC. No glue, just some provided screws. For radio setup I just copied my Marlin and added channel five for the Vector (it's a 3 position switch on my Radiomaster) and mounted my Turnigy receiver up under where the canopy snaps down. Balanced perfectly with a 4S 2200 all the way forward. Vector setup up took maybe five minutes.

I won't fly an 8 servo plane with a stabilization system on the BEC in the ESC. No idea of the quality and if there is a failure, I still want control of my surfaces. 6amps continuous and 10 peak is sure better than the 3/5 most internal BEC put through.

The maiden was about as uneventful as any I've had. Half flaps for takeoff in stabilizer only mode, no trim needed and then shifted to what I still call safe mode which I hated immediately as I do on all the Horizon products. It's too controlling and IMO, should be reserved for panic situations like an uncontrolled flat spin. Landed on half flaps, perfect touchdown on the mains and then the nose gear a couple second later all on 0 throttle and a LONG glide path.

You can stall it in a turn if you are just being stupid and have bled off all the speed and are at 0 throttle. However, in normal flying, you won't need to power through the turns like many jets. I make my turn onto final with very moderate throttle, kill power when I straighten out and then flaps deployed. It settles in just beautifully with no stabilization on although this is probably where I should use it.

People at the field loved the plane, many of them saw it in action in Korea (yes, we're an aging club), couple even flew it during their time in the service so it was warmly received. Good detail, good paint but I always recommended a coating of clear water based poly to protect the finish as long as possible.

Bottom line - there are no negatives and I would buy it before the next price increase as we all know it's coming. I wouldn't worry about spares at it seems very durable and the gear is pretty stout. I do recommend removing the wing tanks - they look scale but really drag the speed down - it is actually pretty quick with them off (quicker than the Marlin actually). Glad I did an early order as this is a FUN plane to fly and one of the few jets where you can actually do 5 minutes on the 2200 but you better stick your first landing because there isn't much left for a go around.

Let me start off by saying I am strictly a BnF Horizonhobby.com buyer because I do not have the time to waste programming building and tweeking to get to the field

This Sabre goes together easy, flys awesome and is durable for crosswind landings that would wreck other 64mm edfs. After experiencing the Hh F-15 64mm and what an underpowered pos it was, i swore off 64mm 4s edfs forever

Then because I was watching A Brian Phillips review i decided the Bea-Hawk was worth a small investment.

Wow was that fun.. my flying partner expressed interest in the Sabre and i reluctantly purchased it.. with the exception of a minor issue... this edf is nothing but fun.

Upon firing up my maiden flight, the aervo wire to the elevator (right) was cut in half by the edf fan. I managed to land the sabre with one half of the elevator and acquired a new y cable and rewired the elevator.

    Problem solved.

    Great value and tremendous fun..

I've been flying EDF jets for about 10 years...the last 3 years mostly 6s 80/90mm.....Since HZ started releasing the 64mm 4s size jets I've been selling my 6s jets....The 64 mm categorie is such a better value and fit for me.....This spring when I saw HZ was taking pre-orders on the new Arrows F86 64mm 4s I immediately ordered one.....WOW!!!Great scale look, unbelievable speed and run time and it fits in my front seat with the wing on...its slow flight with 15% flaps is sooooo good.....forgot to mention it takes off lumpy grass with 50% flaps like it was on pavement. The longest flight I've gotten on a 4s 2200 is 6 minutes and the typical turn
,burn and climb flight is 3.5 minutes.....The sound is amazing too. I also like to support HZ they are great on parts, support, shipping and their fantastic products...BUY THIS JET YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!! Happy flying...LW

This jet is a great flyer and smooth as the Marlin. Assembly was pretty simple.Maiden was a dream right out of the box. A little trimming and she was perfect. Vector gyro is awesome. Did have to cut a bit of foam out of the cockpit to accommodate the specified battery. Decided to move the receiver to a spot under the battery tray. That added more clearance for all the wiring. Only the nose gear appears to be fragile. After 6-7 flights I had to straighten the nose gear after some less than perfect landings. Have to be careful not to hurry the proces since the nose gear wire could be broken. Excellent model.

This is the 5th Arrows plane I've purchased, and it's great like all the rest. Stabilization works well, jet is really locked in. It's surprisingly fast, similar to the marlin . There were a couple dents on the wings right from the box, but fairly minor. I run a 4s 2200, and usually get 3 min flight time. Perfect starter jet for someone new to jets, and still great fun for more experienced pilots

My overall review is A+. Assembling the plane was a bit of a challenge because the interior capacity is limited due to the size of the plane. I use (and recommend) a 2600 mah battery. With that, a receiver, and the flight stabilization module and all the necessary wiring make for a tight fit, but doable. Whether using the fight assist or not, the plane's flight is predictable and fun! I suggest not pushing your flight time much past 5 minutes. Ducted fans put quite a load on a battery. With the module on full assist, self hand launch is no problem. This plane is a lot of fun at a reasonable price.

What a great plane, it actually flies. I bought the $100 Freewing model a year ago and barely got it to fly before I lost the plane. When I saw this one, it had louvers in the same place I had installed them to get more air flow to the fan. The plane was too underpowered and completely unstable because you had no room for a gyro. This plane has a bigger wing with more dihedral to the wing surface. When you power it up, it feels like it wants to take off in the attitude you need for a hand launch. With 5mm up elevator and an underhand launch holding onto the plane at the back of the canopy it takes off in a straight line while you get your hands on the controls to fly the plane. I started hand launching on flight #3 and have not had a crash yet. It balances with a 2500-2600 mah battery all the way forward and gets about a 5 min. flight. It has good performance , good stability and looks really cool in the air. Way bigger than the Freewing model and much easier to see than I thought. I have not had any problems with disorientation. What a great model.

This is an excellent EDF jet as a second jet and that is only if you are not skilled in hand launching. Although this jet has gear, I’d rather hand launch it. From a flight perspective, it flys really well on a 4S battery. I do have mine setup with rates (high, mid, low) and typically fly it in mid rates. The finish is excellent. The only change I made was a more robust gear set which you can get at RC-Castle.com.

The great thing about the Arrows is the sturdy foam and tremendous power. The Eflite sucked all the power out of a battery in a few minutes, the Sabre has plenty of power, great performance... about the only gripe i could possibly have would be the elevator could use a little more throw.

Aside from that, a tremendous edf that not only would i recommend again and again, id buy it again if i wrecked it.

Only my second EDF, the first being the Marlin, the F-86 Sabre is rock solid out of the box, I love the "NO GLUE" assembly. Attention to small details is important for a successful build, routing the aileron & flap leads through the slots in the fuselage is an example of that, the foam is nice and sturdy , there is ample space in the battery compartment for a 220 -2600mAh pack.
Flight time, the grass at my field is kind of high so I had to hand launce for the maiden, "WOW, JUST WOW!!". I launched in self leveling mode, gained some altitude and turned it off, a few clicks and she was on rails...I did some rolls, loops and she behaved very well. I am mainly a warbird guy and she has similar flight characteristics of my Hawker Sea Fury and Tempest
This model caught my eye because of the looks and price, I committed to buying it after see the reviews from Brian Phillips RC and The RC Saylors, they were both RIGHT, this plane is rock solid in the air, slow fight is a breeze and the stall is predictable, landing is also easy due to how well it handles slow flight. I have NO elevator mix with my flaps and have NOT seen any balloon effect.
Looks great, great price, flies extremely well, IMHO it would make a great first EDF, especially if you are coming from warbirds....Hoping someone would produce a 64mm MIG-17 like this(Hint, hint)

The Arrows 64mm F-86 Sabre gives you a lot of bang for your bucks.
She goes together in just a few minutes with a few screws for the tail and main wing.
She has the fit and Finnish you would expect from a more expensive model.
The Vector Gyro is a very nice feature although the plane flies so smooth advanced pilots won't need it.
With a 4S 2200 pack all the way forward she balances and flies right the first time.
The flaps make landings very smooth whether on a hard runway or on grass.
Her grass-ops are great and you will have no prop=blem in take-off or landings on a grass field.

Great little EDF for the money and feature rich with the flaps and durable landing gear. I have used a 2200 spektrum 4S 30 and 50C and the Genes 2600 45C so far. I might try to squeeze a 3200 by cutting some foam from the canopy...it can handle the weight I believe...flies great with the included arrows Vector stabalization...I'm using a AR620 receiver that fits right next to it fine. Now I'm looking at the bigger version...but honestly, I love the size and portability of this thing...I take it with me a lot because of that.

I bought this for my first EDF and planned to get a larger F86 sabre. This is an amazing flying plane with all of the bells and whistles. I personally did not enjoy flying it with the fuel tanks or the fixed landing gear because of the added weight and drag. This plane REALLY shines in a grass park as a belly lander. Just remove the tanks, and gear (they break over and over again anyway) and have a great time. I'm using 2200mah 4s packs when doing FPV with it. But since it's so small I prefer to just do regular flying as FPV can be quite bouncy in the wind. Flies for 4min with good throttle conttrol.

I love flying this airplane. The performance and appearance in the air are excellent as built.  I found the performance was the best with the gyro turned off. Since it was useless to me, so I removed it. To my pleasant surprise, good performance went to great performance. Seems the gyro dampens throws, even when turned off. The excitement factor increased to the point that made this EDF, my favorite.

I’ve been wanting this plane since the summer when it was out of stock. Bought one when it was restocked and boy I couldn’t be happier. It looks great and flys even better. It fits my need as a belly lander or when I fly off a pavement.  Exciting plane that’s easy to see in the sky and has more than enough power on a 35c battery.  Only issues I’ve had were all servo wires leading to the tail were labeled elevator, not elevator and rudder. Easy fix.  Overall, an extremely fun little plane and will be my go to for a long time.

Minimal assembly which you will probably never have to take apart for transport or storage.  This is a perfect first jet that will build confidence in takeoffs and landings.  It is a beautiful scale flyer with enough pep to perform graceful Cuban 8’s, barrel rolls, low passes with a climbing victory roll,  and just about any scale maneuver you demand of it.  Its high visibility paint makes it very easy to see. It is effortless to take it to the field, drop in a battery and fly.  I use a 4S 2700mAh battery and get 3 to 5min of flight depending on throttle use.  Finally, this is the easiest plane to land of all my tricycle gear warbirds, aided greatly by fully functioning flaps.  The only issue I have is that the foam is somewhat soft, but dings and wear problems can be lessened if  it is left assembled and transported in the trunk.  I have not tried hand launching, but with the flight stabilization system I sure it would not be a problem.

I fly EDF’s from 90mm and down, by far this is the most amazing and fun flying plane I have in my hangar. The value, quality, value are all amazing.  I am using the Vector flight stabilization gyro and I must say it flies rock solid and amazing. The flaps make it so easy to land, I was flying in 12mph winds today and it did an amazing job. I would highly recommend this bird if you’re looking for a great flyer at an amazing price point this is your bird! Highly highly highly recommend!

The Sabre is a great 4s edf jet! It's easy to transport in my trunk and yet looks good in the sky and at the field. The Vector system paired up flawlessly with my chosen Spektrum AR620 (non stabilizing) receiver. Vector works great and I can turn it off mid flight if I want. I did choose to change the select positioning of the Vector on/mid/off on my chosen 3 way switch. The packaging of the plane was amazing.

This is a great looking, nice flyer. It takes off in a short distance, almost like a trainer. It does nice round loops and rolls in a scale like manner. The flaps help shorten the landing approach and roll-out.

This little jet is a pure pleasure to fly lots of fun. I really like the quality of the arrows kits they seem top notch for the price. The only complaint and it's a minor one is there stabilization needs some adjustability, in stabilized flight my plane has a slight little wiggle to it doesn't seem to affect performance just a tad annoying. I would definitely recommend buying this little jet you won't regret it

F86. Good, Not Great, Not as good as the Marlin

    Quality

    Fun

    Value

    Durability

    Appearance

I have the Marlin and the F86.  5stars for the Marlin, 3stars for the F86.    Marlin feels better built and seems to have been made by FMS.  (= a good thing)   The F86's foam seems less dense and the exterior finish is not as nice.   The F86 compartment with the stabilizer is very tight.  I took out the stabilizer, put in an AR620, use a $2 lipo alarm and can get it all to just fit with a 2500 4S.   If I have to battle with getting the battery in every time then that is a bad thing.   A 2200 would make the fit easier, but I go for the extra flight time.

To me the F86 is harder to see and get orientation on vs the Marlin.  Not sure if that is the silver color or  is just inherent with the F86 design.  I found the F86 flight times to be less than the Marlin's (comparable throttle) and the Marlin a little smoother flyer.

Overall, not a bad plane.  But side by side (for me) the Marlin is a much better EDF.   Your results will of course vary.

I have purchased 8-10 planes from here, usually awesome, this is awful. I was told if i spend more money then i would get something off, if i track Bobs e-mail in my next purchase. Probably wont work out for me.
