I highly recommend this kit. Performed perfectly right out of the box. Very stable flight at slow speeds as well as kicking it up a little. Very fun plane to fly, only would like a longer flight time, but that’s the nature of the beast with this size class. I will just buy multiple batteries for change out. My maiden flight today had a brisk breeze but it performed vey well, better than others I have bought very similar to this one. I will be purchasing another plane from Arrows in on the near future. Impressed.

Got this for my son to learn how to fly. Its ready to go! Charged the battery and a flight surface check. No reversed servos and it was time to fly. Took-off and flew in Safe/ Stability mode. Even with a 3 mph wind, G2G! But in Dynamic mode things get squirrelly. It loops great but doesn't like to roll. Anyway, my son loves and its really fun to fly even though its small.

Charge and fly! The 2 cell 350 mah with JST connector is a game changer too. Flys well in the wind , 10 mph wind no problem.  15 mph winds are a little rough- mostly after landing.- more tumble than taxi. The Vector stability system is impressive. If you get in trouble just release the sticks .  Well thought out design, with top access battery  compartment and big tires to takeoff  and land on anything. Great bang for the buck.

This is a great plane for beginners!  Stability mode is incredible and the plane is very stable and easy to fly even in a light wind.  Dynamic mode allows even experienced RC pilots to have a blast, having full control over the aircraft to perform loops, rolls, and an array of aerobatic maneuvers.  This four channel plane gives new pilots room to grow,  and provides a stable platform to get in the air quickly and gain confidence.   Also, I really appreciate the tremendous customer support I received from Dan!   Hobby Zone Rocks!

I am loving my Pioneer 620 from Hobby Zone. I wish it was available in a BNF but still lots of fun. I think their Sports Cub S would make a better 1st plane but for many, but the Pioneer would work well and definitely, is the best choice for a second plane. The Pioneer is well designed with internal servos and connections for protection. Responsive for sure in both stability and Dynamic modes. Franky with 15 planes in my hanger the Pioneer looks the best of all of them. It seems to be tough enough, but I can't get a hard landing to be sure. Landings are a breeze. No matter what your favorite plane is the Pioneer is worth getting. Throw it in the car and have some fun on the way to work.

Airplane flies great. Very easy in stability mode, let go of the controls and you're level. After takeoff, fly at half throttle. I'm getting well over 10 minute flights, up to 15. Full throttle and dynamic mode on, you better know what you're doing (loops, upside down, does not like to roll although you can force it to). Dozens of flights, numerous crashes. This a durable, versatile airplane. Keep it close, it's small and easy to lose sight of.

I bought this as my first RC airplane after sticking to RC cars for 4 years. Flies really well, nice and smooth. The gyro works well to keep it stable in light winds, and it has enough power to fly through stronger gusts. I bought a second one as a gift for my father and its fun to fly together. Highly recommended.

Package arrived and I was very pleased to see that this plane was in one piece.  It took me a while to get around to flying it.  I am a complete novice ( idiot). I but in the batteries for the transmitter, I checked the charge on the flight battery.  Made all my ground checks and all looked good.  The day I chose to attempt the maiden was blowing maybe 2-3 miles an hour, which I didn’t think was bad.  I taxied and the plane lifted right off.  Then the transmitter started beeping continuously.  I didn’t read that far into the manual until after to discover that the signal meant the batteries were weak!  My mistake.  The plane came down hard bounce and went back up, with out me having any control.  When it did come down, it was missing one tire and had a crushed nose.  I found the wheel, but not the hub.
All in all it was my fault that everything went wrong.  The plane is solidly built and can take quite a lot of abuse before needing repair.  I recommend this plane for little guys just starting

    Fun park flyer!

    Appearance

Excellent RTF airplane with everything you need to start flying at your local park. The Vector flight control system is excellent and keeps the plane very stable and smooth in the stability mode, making it easy to start flying with less chance of losing control and crashing. As you gain experience, flip the mode toggle switch on the transmitter to turn off stability mode, allowing complete control of the aircraft and allowing to learn some basic acrobats. While learning in the "advanced" mode if you get in trouble or disoriented, quickly switch back to stability mode to immediately recover the airplane into level flight. This works really well and has saved me many times while learning to fly in the more advanced mode.

The plane has lots of power which is great for quick climb outs to higher altitudes, and can move the airplane at quite a high rate of speed.

Only negative I have to say is the transmitter seems tied to the Pioneer and can't be used for future airplane purchases. Additionally, the plane may fly a little fast for complete beginners, so make sure you have plenty of room on the first few flights to avoid ending up in a tree or on a rooftop.

such a great plane. learned how to fly good enough to advance to a bigger plane in about 3 flights. but i still fly the pioneer all the time even after owning a few bigger planes. the way you can easily transport it and literally just throw it into the air anywhere you go with zero care and not have to worry. very durable (except the prop, i would recommend getting a couple spares) as long as you dont nose dive straight into the ground it will bounce back like nothing happened, usually. also recommend at least 1 extra battery to maximize flight time, 2 extra and you can fly for more than half an hour. each battery has lasted me at least 10 min, even cheaper amazon batteries. all tho i recommend getting the arrows battery because its the same price and better performance. 1 GRIPE I HAVE IS THE PROPS ARE OUT OF STOCK IN THE US!!!! WTH but the umx series plane prop works but has less power. iv beaten mine up pretty bad, broke a wing off, shattered the motor mount (3d printed a new one, file on thingiverse for umx), and a little super glue and it goes back together like nothing happened. great little plane. it will fly inverted and do loops, knife edge, death spins and all that cool stuff while still being a dossal little thing in safe mode. will sustain like 10 mph gust of winds probly more but not as fun. $180 was tought to dish out but i got over it real quick once it was in the air

This is a great little airplane, especially for beginners.  Has a "safe" mode that keeps the plane level and steady for new flyers making the plane easy to fly for beginners, turn this off using a switch to gain complete control of the plane, allowing for tighter turns and some aerobatics (loops and such).  When "safe" mode is off the Vector stabilization is still in effect, which stabilizes the flight using automatic small micro adjustments to maintain smooth flight in breeze conditions.  If you purchase, buy a few extra batteries at the same time to stay in the air longer.   The plane is very durable, surviving many crashes with no damage, if damage happens a little glue and tape is enough to get it back in the air.

Bought this plane to be able to fly in smaller areas then is required for my Bigfoot. I'm a new flyer and landings are less then perfect. This plane is very responsive with ample power. The light weight and EPP construction have taken my worst landing unscathed.

I just moved so havent even gotten a chance to unpack the plane yet - but I have very high expectations. It comes highly recommended by the RC Sailors - and that's good enough for me. I definetely recommend Hobby Zone to those looking for a great hobby shop!

If anyone is looking for an excellent first airplane to learn how to fly that will grow with you this is it. This plane is a great size and is made of the much more durable EPP foam.  The remote doesn’t have a lot of complicated switches that aren’t used. It has one switch to Switch between stabilized and optimized gyro flight modes. The other ultra micro bush planes are just too small and fragile to take off or land on anything other than concrete.  I fly this plane from my local ball field.  Total blast to fly.

I ordered it on a Friday and was flying it by Tuesday I could go on and on and on about this AWESOME RC AIRPLANE but that would be cutting into my Flight time hahaha.

First of all, I am a great fan for ordering plane parts and planes through Hobby Zone. I can always count on great service from them. They have many parts available that I have needed, some good special deals, and can count on them to ship what I need quickly. My orders usually get to my home in 2 to 5 days at the most, sometimes in 1 day. They are packed with care too.
I saw this RTF Arrow 620mm Pioneer reviewed on youtube.com by Brian Phillips at BrianPhillipsRC. He shares a lot of great information with all of his reviews. This RTF RC looks like a great set-up for someone that may be just getting into the hobby and learning to fly or for someone with limited space for flying near their home, since this plane seems to have plenty of quality parts, including brushless motor with power and stabilization electronics built into it. The motor even has a metal prop shaft. I found that it was available as a replacement part too. I now have one installed for my umx Timber after I did some "McGivering" to make it work, along with the Pioneer hard plastic nose cone and prop. Now the umx Timber has improved power, solid nose cone, and no more broken prop shafts!
I was so impressed with the quality in those Arrow parts and the youtube reviews, that I decided that it would be a good Christmas gift for a friend of mine that has an interest in getting into this hobby. The purchase date was just a little over week away from Christmas, so I did not expect it to get there in time, but Hobby Zone pulled through. Now we just have to wait for the Minnesota/Wisconsin winter to warm up before the maiden flight. My friend and I can hardly wait!

I learned to fly first on a app on my phone so I wouldn't crash and burn first time. It helped alot. Look forward to a larger plane and will used Hobby zone again. Wish it came with 2 batteries. I have been flying models for 0ver 40 years, and I will tell you that this plane is a winner. Beginners or long-time flyers will find this plane a joy to fly. I punches all the right buttons, Stability, Controllability, Durability, Beginner Friendly, and all out fun. The transmitter is very good too. It looks small and toy-ish, but it has good controllability and the planes flies well with it. My only wish is that it needs floats. This plane can fly well in any ball field or large back yard. Buy it, and fly it as it comes out of the box, and don't try to modify it into something it is not. You won't be disappointed.

This little cub is a gem! I started with the sport cub s 2....big mistake. This site even stated that the Pioneer was a better plane. Although the Sport cub was a great flyer, the problems were in the construction (for a beginner it was too week) , and power. The slightest wind threw it around which ended it up in countless trees and eventually parked for good. Now, on the other hand the Pioneer meets the criteria for a beginner. Its tough as nails and has the power to push through and have fun in pretty moderate wind without blowing into the next county. This is a awesome little plane with decent amount of throws .the elevator and rudder have a major amount of capability... scared me at first cause I wasn't expecting it . I highly recommend this plane. My only quam is I wish it was either pnp or had a throw rate switch with the transmitter. But for the price point and all said...buy this for your first aircraft. You won't regret it.

Batteries last quite a long time considering their size.

This is a fun plane and easy to fly, very responsive . STOL it's in the air within a few feet. I've flown in 10mph wind and it handles fine. Lands well on short grass and hard surfaces. Long grass flips, but no damage. The rudder has a lot of authority when used with the ailerons the turns can be very aggressive. Motor has plenty of power and the fat tires make for easy take-off and landing. Flight time around 10 minutes. Weak points: Landing gear (fix - piece of fiber tape across axial); Rudder assembly - I snapped the foam hinges (fix small butterfly bandages works well, CA glue did not hold).

This is my first rc plane. The auto leveling mode is easy to switch in an out of. As my skills improve I can take it out of auto mode and build on my skills. When I get over my head, flip the switch and it levels itself out very quickly.

Bought this as my first rc airplane and love it. Did have an issue with the first one I received, but was able to exchange it and the new one is great. Never flew any rc prior, and after 10-15 minutes was comfortable enough to do flips and rolls. Seems fairly durable as well, accidentally flew into the side of my garage on a botched landing and it bounced off and was fine.

I have had this Pioneer 620 for about 4 weeks .Plenty of power, let's you do most anything .Oversized landing gear wheels make touch-and-go landings fun. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for Appearance, because I would have preferred it to have factory installed LED navigation lights. This little plane is worth the money in my opinion.

Great plane that’s fun to fly. The wing is the weak point that should be beefed up if you plan on landing in the grass. The sticker on top of the wing stops at the weakest point and after a few soft landings in the grass started to tear the wing right next to the fuselage. If the sticker on top of the wing was a single piece it would probably solve this problem. I glued it back together and used clear packaging tape the length of the wing to reinforce it and have had no problems since.  Would definitely recommend for all skill levels.

This model is ready to go from the package, except for 4 AA batteries for the transmitter. It has more than adequate power, taking off within a few feet when full power is applied. It has large tires, which really help in a grass field. It has a  gyro mode that corrects for beginners mistakes. It has a switch for changing from gyro mode to a more advanced profile. I would suggest putting a strip of wide packing tape from wingtip to wingtip. Our beginner did a few cartwheels trying to land, breaking the wing where it meets the fuselage. Foam is easily repaired with white carpenters glue. Battery lasts a good long time.

I left the RC hobby in 2000 and at the time i was flying glow engines and FM radios. This is a new world, and planes like this are a good way to get back in at a relatively low cost. The only downside to this ane is because it is so light weight, any good breeze grounds you. It would be fine in a large gym.

I bought this plane so that I could fly at a nearby school yard. I have larger (fuel) RC planes, but they require that I go to a flying field that is large enough for them. This cute little plane is perfect for going to a nearby school yard and flying. It's tons of fun when there's no wind and it's flying smoothly. Safe Mode (or whatever they call it) is great to get started with, and then when toggled off, loops and stall turns are super easy. I did manage to nose it in once, and the little plane sustained no damage. It's durable and fun. 10+ minute flights at 1/2 throttle make it a joy. I only wish that it would roll faster, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Highly recommended for both beginners (in safe mode) and experienced RC'ers that just want to toss something in the air and fly around a school yard.

I bought this plane to train a new pilot and for that purpose it is great buy!! (for the price, and most of all for the durability!!!)

    Good product. Very durable.
    RTF radio:
Flies okay on RTF. The transmitter's range of on gimbles is off (ex: left aileron deflects full while only half way into the stick) . I wish RTF transmitter had a throttle hold. Almost non do.

As far a plane. Little touchy on elevator for a beginner that flies 1/2 throttle. It flies good at 1/3 throttle where the elevator isn't as touchy.
When pairing with a multi-module: throttle range is off. I wish I could recalibrate esc, but than if the rtf remote is off- how would you calibrate radio transmitter. But because you can set expo on computerized radio - it flies great.
Only thing I wish is that the roll rate was better - but I think its because the Ailerons are so close to fuselage, where most planes have flaps that it effects how the plane rolls.

I was able to takeoff and land 5 times, as well as fly steep turns, climbs and dives safety in safe mode my first day of RC flying with this plane. I did break the wing off my second day, but that was in free flight and was my fault as I lost a little focus. I was able to repair the wing with Foam-tac and tooth picks. This model was easy to figure out and to fly (in safe mode). I highly recommend this plane for a beginner or intermediate flyer alike.  Dan at Hobby Zone is a great guy with excellent customer service!

Out of the box one of the wing struts was loose and not secured to the fuselage. I glued it to the fuselage and took the plane out for it's maiden. It required a tremendous of aileron trimming to fly straight. I was surprised at how long the flight time was being easy on the throttle, at least ten minutes. Upon landing I discovered for some reason the right wing is not level with the rear stabilizer. It's like the foam is deformed. I tried to push down the wing to no avail. For now I taped the strut leads together which had the effect of shortening them and pulling down the right wing to level.

This is an economical way to get into the hobby and accessories and the plane itself are priced reasonably. You can leave it in the original box with your extra batteries and throw it on the back seat, making transport very easy. I would like to have given this model five stars but with the wing issue I settled on four.

I am new to the hobby of RC planes and have only previously owned an Eachine Mini Warbird Corsair F4U. So far the Pioneer has been an incredible plane with my only complaint, if I want to even consider it a complaint, being the landing gear. The gear has operated perfectly with the exception of minor aesthetic damage on the inside of the wheel from the surrounding plastic scraping the wheels on take-off/landing/taxing. The wheels still operate perfectly fine and minor alterations can be made by the individual to circumvent this from happening. After all, it is a hobby! Overall very impressed with the structure, brushless motor, and steerable tail wheel for taxiing. While it has gone up in price from a year or two ago (RC Saylors youtube video) I would still consider this a great beginner plane!

I purchased the 620mm pioneer because I love the idea of an epp plane with a strong brushless motor that I cam fly in a backyard.  The videos made the plane look perfectly gentle and controllable and I really expected similar performance.  For background, I’ve been flying Rc for about 10 years with experience in planes, drones and helis.  On my first flight I was flying in stable mode- As I applied left Aileron the plane just kept flying straight. As I applied hard ailerons, the plane refused to turn.  Finally, I had to use the rudder to bring it back.  I could switch modes and the ailerons would turn the plane.  Also the plane seemed to fly nose up/tail down (yes I checked the COG).  Overall the plane is just a solid C-average out of the box.  I want to  tune it, but apparently I have to remove the glued down wing to access the controls.  Really hope I can post a better update to this review 8n the future
Hobbyzone: We suspect customer was flying at full throttle, in which case the plane will constantly climb because the motor is powerful. We recommend flying at half throttle except when doing loops and rolls for most manageable flight.

I was finally able to fly my Pioneer for the first time this morning. I flew the stock pack and three other 300 milliamp 2 cell Pax that I had from another airplane. I was able to get 22 minutes out of each pack flying at half throttle and still had juice left just in case I had to go around before it was time to land. The model flies equally well in both modes and I was impressed with the quality of the transmitter and the fact it has trim buttons. Another ready to fly model that I have does not have trim buttons and when do you switch to advanced mode it gets a little squirrely and is pretty pitch sensitive. I did not find this to be the case with the pioneer. I am able to take off and land from a hard surface about the size of a volleyball court. This is my second purchase of an arrow Hobbies airplane and I am very happy with both of my purchases. I also have the J-3 cub. Other than having to adjust the elevator which was set too high from the factory it flies great right out of the box and has more than enough power to get you out of trouble when you need it.
