I have finially got to  fly the SZD 54, I had my friend hand toss It. It took off just great, had a light breeze flew up to a decent altitude in no time. Turning into the wind really slowed it down and throughout the flights I had a tendency to fly it too slow. This sailplane needs some speed into it , I saw it start to tip stall several times. Setting up to land it did bad tip stalls from less than 50  Feet turning final striking the ground on both flights. Fortunately it was high grass and did no damage, I can’t believe it!!! Now I know and will keep the speed up in turns close to the ground. Most of this is on me for trying to fly slow, not the planes fault. I bought some hobby shop fluorescent yellow for the wing tips and outer bottom of the wing.
   Great sailplane, not for beginners.
    Very nice looking in the air.
     Take this sailplane over a Multiplex product anytime.
    I will probably order another one for a spare in the near future.

3 minute build. Out to the field the next day. Really good foam. Very similar to the Eflite Conscendo. Fun to fly, you can go fast, you can soar, loop and roll. Great plane to start the day with, or if you’re in the mood and just chill out for 15 minutes + and glide.

I have had several sailplanes/gliders. This Arrow Sailplane is the best I have ever flown. It effortlessly will climb with an easy toss when you rev the motor. It has flaps which is a big plus. It can perform aerobatics. I only added some colored duct tape strips on the underside of the wings for orientaion.

My first ever glider and I picked the right one. I was always afraid of launching by hand but with this glider it’s so smooth launching it with a bit throttle. I highly recommend this product to anyone. Great job hobbyzone.

This plane is everything you could want as a novice glider experience. It flies exactly how I wanted. Less sporty than the Conscendo its more of a pure glider. I run it with a 3S 1300 battery and that provides plenty of power to climb to 400 feet in under 30 seconds, and then just shut the motor down and glide around for 10-15 minutes before I do it again. If there is a breeze, or thermals it would stay up much much longer. I had to put a lawn chair out to sit on. If you are an advanced pilot you could slope soar very easily with this. You can also sport fly under power if you want, it has lots of power even with a small battery, and a 2600 would give a very long powered flight. I just prefer the 1300 for gliding. Lighter works best for that.

Its capable of pure gliding, powered gliding, and sport gliding. It does all of them very well, it just depends what you want to do that day. It isnt the super high speed powered sport glider that the Conscendo is. but its still capable of aerobatics and 5-10 minutes of full powered fun. But then you can put a 3s 1300 battery in it and fly for up to an hour just using the motor to climb. Or you could take it to an unpowered gliding area and slope soar. This plane will definitely help you learn whether gliders are for you, and put a plane in your hangar thats flexible and capable.

I just maidened my SDZ-54 today. It was a birthday present from my kids and I’ve been wanting to fly it for almost a month now. 
Flies beautifully. The motor is super responsive, it’s very easy to hand launch. 
I actually didn’t have to trim absolutely nothing on my first flight.
Easy compartment to access battery. 
The one only thing that I wish it had was an easier wing connector to plug in the flaps/aileron servos. Other than that the plane has absolutely no flaws. It’s extremely well built. 
I personally give it 5/5 stars! 

This is a Christmas Present from my grandson's. Plane will not be opened or used until after Christmas Day. Can hardly wait.

I heard about Arrows AZD 54 and tried to get one only to find that it was sold out. When I saw on YouTube that they were back in stock I immediately sent my order in. Just several days later it was at my door. Upon opening the box I right away saw that what was said about the plane was true. I am now looking forward to getting it in the air. 

I love my new sailplane szd-54.   Flies great can’t wait for warmer weather.

On today's maiden flight, I was surprised and pleased that this SZD 54 needed no trimming of anything, right out of the box. It was a wind of 4 to 6 mph, but the plane sliced into it like a knife.
The only thing that was a negative about the sailplane was that it was advertised having digital servos. It was disappointing to see the servo label saying "analog" on it.
Other than that, I just love this plane and would recommend it to any intermediate pilot! Oh yeah, one more thing, the flaps are AWESOME!!

This plane is a real pleasure to fly. Easy and no surprises. Remember, it's a motor glider not an EDF! Simply put it's electric and the power is there when you want it.. glide around a bit or put power in if you want speed. Flaps are effective and you're able to land on the runway with confidence as the wheels and wing/tail skids protect the structure.

The SZ-54 came packed very well and intact. It went together easily and the instructions were easy to understand. This glider is a fantastic flyer and has become one of my favorite aircraft. It was easy to balance and hand launch yourself. I would recommend this glider for anyone looking for something easy to fly and learn on.

Pros: Very durable. Easiest plane I've assembled. Lots of space in the fuselage. Cooling vents.
Cons: Easy to stall.
Thermals: Great. Doesn't want to stop climbing.
Notes: Fly it like a plane under constant throttle. Go high to thermal at slower speeds. Glider tends to stall and spiral downwards at low speeds. Give yourself height to recover. It happened to me about 5 times out of 10 flights. I recovered 3. I was too low to recover the other 2. Smacked it hard into the field. Almost zero damage. A hairline crack in the hatch lip that I repaired with CA and some scuff marks on the spinner. That's it after 2 crashes. Still looks new.

After 40+ years I decided to get back into the hobby. Lots of things have changed since I last flew RC aircraft. Now I'm retired. Flying RC aircraft is great fun, a great way to meet friends, and very relaxing. I've purchased several RC planes from Hobby Zone because the prices are competitive with the big guys and the service has always been excellent. The SZD 54 is quality built at a bargain price and easy to fly.

Quality A+.  Aerobatic A+. Painted the under side of the wing to keep track of this fast moving plane, it has that nice whistle on a high speed pass. Glider pilots will understand. Very little wing flex when preforming  high G maneuvers. I set mine up for fpv, and it’s a rush to do a high speed pass from the cockpit. I also changed the hinges to the cloth just because I push the envelope most of the time.

Outstanding value and overall build quality plus decent performance for a foam glider makes this little glider a must have

I have limited experience with motor gliders; just having learned to fly on a UMX Radian, and flying the Night Radian in almost no wind. On my maiden flight, I used the flaps to find and ride a monster thermal! It rose up 800 feet with almost no effort. When it was time to come down, I just put the flaps back in and did 4 downward spirals right to the runway. Putting them down one last time, the plane came to a stop right where I wanted it to be. It's a fantastic flyer with loops and slow rolls. It's durable, provided to treat it with care and don't exceed wind recommendations. Fantastic plane.

I won't be able to fly it until January but I'm all excited! This plane gets great reviews, came boxed nicely and even though I had to wait three months, HZ shipped out as soon as they got it. Always a pleasure dealing with them.

Arrows continue to produce the very best. The fit and finish on this SZD-54 is impressive and every servo is perfectly adjusted. A very quick assembly with a wide C.G. range. You can use a 3S-2200 but it flies like a dream on a 3S-1300. If it had plug-in connections for the wings it would be perfect for transporting because 2 M is pretty big for most folks. A very nice plane at a great price. I suggest you grab one before they run out again, very popular.

Have not flown yet, but very impressed so far. Great service on shipping, fast even 2 days ahead of date given. well worth the money so far!!

Glider arrived quickly and assembled easily. The maiden was great with no issues. On following flights I noticed screws on prop and nose wheel were loose . With prop I replaced existing 3mm screws with longer screws and 3mm locknuts solving that problem. With nosewheel I also replaced short screw with longer screw and nut. All in all a fantastic full house glider.

This was my first purchase from Hobby Zone, and I'm very pleased. The telephone help I received before the order was placed, was appreciated. Shipping was fast too.

Love this glider! Set up with 3 rates as I always like to maiden in low rates until I get a feel for how a plane reacts to inputs. Low rates for me was 70% throws and I found this to be to tame as this is a very friendly flying airplane. 3rd flight caught some thermals and had to fly out of them as she just wanted to climb. Looking forward to many hours of fun with this.

Maiden flight today. No trim needed at all. Flew like a champ. Much nicer then my old fox 2300mm glider. Highly recommended

This is the first powered glider that we bought. It was easy to assemble and get ready to fly. We are newbies so we installed a flight controller and it is amazing to fly. Super stable. Love the low speed performance with the flaps. The plane is pretty tough. Had a couple of rough landings. Flew it into a chain link fence and it barely has a scratch on it. Flying it with a 1500maH 3s battery and it keeps on flying. Does best in low winds.

Had some original problems getting the wings onto the wing spars; the slot for the spars was not deep enough but with some rocking back and forth and a lot of force finally got them to fully install. Getting better all the time.

The plane is clearly solid should be able to take a beating. It looks great but in the air, its all white color can make it hard to keep orientation. Painted the upper wing tips fluorescent orange. Painted a wide dark blue strip on the lower wing about 2/3rds the way out. Makes a huge difference.

Added a throttle/down elevator mix so the plane did not pitch up so much with throttle. I am still getting used to this kind of flying but am really enjoying it. Will fly it a lot. I
I am still figuring out how much flap to use and if I need some flap/elevator mix.
Would rate the quality 5 stars except for the problems I had with the wing spars.

I had some original problems getting the wings to fully install on the fuse as the spars did not want to go all the way in. Eventually was able to work them in and now it is easy get the wing off and on. It is my first plane of this kind so it took some getting used to but it has always launched well. It is tough. It is well built. It is predictable.

I typically use a 3S 1800 mAh battery. I can keep it up for at least a half hour with the battery. Tried a 1300 but it seemed to fly better with the 1800.

I have learned it turns best using the rudder but keep power on in turns or make gentle turns to avoid losing speed. I use a throttle to Elevator mix once launched as under power the plane wants to pitch way up. I also mix in a little down elevator when using the flaps. The flaps slow it down enough to make good landing and not float too far away.

The model is almost all white which can create orientation problems, especially in overcast conditions so I painted the top wing tips a fluorescent orange and put a broad dark blue stripe on the bottom wing about 2/3rds of the way out. Makes a huge difference.

A nice plane to fly around the sky and not worry about it getting away from me.

This is a very well built plane.   Easy to assemble and get into the air.   Easy to fly.  It is kinda caught in the middle between a glider and a warm-liner.  Really does neither great.   Not much aileron authority, has enough power for loops,  and seems a bit heavily loaded for catching thermals.  So for me it was not a fun  plane.  Though it would likely be a fun plane for someone else getting into power gliders.   

This is a good power glider. Very responsive. It will keep you on your toes. Watch out for tip stalls. 

Very good plane. Easy to fly, responsive. Better than the Multiplex Easy Glider. I know, I have one. Lands on the wheels in a reasonable distance. Does not float to the end of the field like a Radian, which I also have. Biggest complaint is one wing is difficult to get into the fuse. Hope that will get easier as the plane gets used. Highly recommend it. The SZD is a keeper.

Packaged well, over all great flyer liked the fact that you can keep Package for transport, easy set up and fly.
