This is a perfect trainer. Easy assembly, smooth and responsive flight characteristics. Long flight time on 11.1v 1300 mAh Lipo. Very forgiving on the controls. And an absolute vision silhouetted against a blue sky. This foamy has a very realistic scale look. A great buy for the price.
I got the J-3 super cub and it is a dream to fly. I have only one complaint: the mount where the motor screws into. I guess it was made Friday right at quitting time because it was put in crooked; the motor sets about 3 degres off center. I am going to have to find some small washers to try to fix. Other than that one thing, it is a great plane.
I've had mine for about a year now, but I didn't buy it for a trainer. I bought it as a fun flyer 6 years into the hobby. This was my first electric plane, and now all my planes are electric because of this plane. With no flue to mess with and nothing to tune, just slam packs and fly. It has plenty of power and flies great, even in the wind. I haven't had any problems with the motor or ESC, and it will fly around for an easy 8 minutes on a charge. Best bang for the buck.
It flew just like the real Piper, like a pig with wings. It is a great plane. I love it. It is a great trainer. I am going to order another to teach my daughter to fly.
I purchased the RxR version a couple months ago, and have yet to get a decent flight. A lot of weight was required in the nose to counteract an extremely tail heavy condition. On the fourth flight the esc went super nova in flight, lost control and crashed (badly) and the aircraft began to burn (meltdown).
Hobby services were very good. After sending back to them the entire aircraft, they replaced it in its entirety!
After assembly and proper balancing (again, a lot of weight in the nose), I got one complete and successful flight.
The second flight went well until the landing. A nice smooth "greaser" ended in a slight nose over because of some grass, whereupon the esc commenced to burn, AGAIN! Also, the rather thin propeller / motor shaft is now bent.
Other than the melted cowling, the rest of the airplane is fine, so I'll need to replace it (the only way to get a cowl is to buy a complete replacement fuselage!?) and I'll be buying another brand motor and esc.
My overall experience with the Select Scale Super Cub has been a big disappointment, and I wonder if I'll ever get the thing to fly right.
The plane was beautiful, easy to assemble, and looked great. But it was very disappointing when it came time to fly. The model is heavy and underpowered. On my first time out, using the prop provided and my own battery (2200 mAh), it wouldn’t even get off the ground. I put on a 3-blade prop and finally got her up, although it was very sluggish, nothing like the video I saw. I am very disappointed.
I purchased Select Cub and could not get it to fly properly. I tried adding more weight to front, but it did not improve. The plane is too tail heavy and unstable. I was disappointed. Do not select this Cub.
