Very nice plane well constructed and comes RXR. with flaps, ailerons. rudder, elevator and lights. Everything worked as advertised. The plane I have has power to spare. It is a great buy. I also own the 350 Corvalis and it comes with all the same features. It is a low wing and has speed to burn. Both planes excellent buys. All the members of my club who own them are pleased.
Got a great deal from Hobbyzone. Overall opinion of the 182 is very good. EPO type construction helps make up for errors in judgment. Appearance out of the box is nice. I'm not a stickler for scale details but this looks great to me.
A few quality issues. One quite serious. After assembly several times I encountered slight glitching. Tightened all connections and headed for the field. Upon power up noticed twitching again with all channels. Decided not to try flying. On the bench I found the connector for the lights was shorted internally. Disconnected from rx and all is good. This could have been a total disaster had it occurred in flight. As previously mentioned, nose wheel and strut are a weak point. A not so perfect landing can result in the steering rod getting tweeked at the servo connection, requiring the wing to come off to realign wire. Wheel rubber seems too hard and not able to absorb landing shock. Bottom of wheel pants getting pretty scratched up.
Flight characteristics are great. Flies scale like. Lacks extra power if you get in trouble. I solved that by using a GWS 9x5DD prop and larger esc.
Overall a real fun plane to fly. Flaps allows for shot takeoff and landing rolls. Always in the truck when going to the field.
Overall, I really like this plane a lot. I bought this May 2009, and as of June 2017, it's still in fantastic shape. The gear did break off after a few flights back in 2009, so I installed floats on it, and have been enjoying it as a float plane ever since, and have traveled over the Pacific Northwest to different lakes, and it's been a blast to fly. With floats, however, it is a little under powered with the stock electronics, but now that this plane is nearly 8 years old, with lots of flights on it, I'm not sure how much longer it will last, but everything still seems to be going strong, including the LED lights. Overall, I really like this plane and get lots of great comments from spectators when I fly.
Pulled out of box, assembled as instructed, charged as required, set trim on bench, ready for take off. 1st try was in a calm wind, made about 30 feet and landed in grass. Did not have enough power at full throttle. No flaps. 2nd try was WFO 1/2 FLAPS did not even clear the first lift off spot at full power. 3rd try, made it up barely to about 6 feet at full throttle on a gentle altitude and then straight into the ground and many pieces. As I have 13 aircraft electric and nitro, this is the MOST disappointing purchase I have made to date! This aircraft is so underpowered it should be a target for dove hunters. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
This plane has been a heartache ever since purchase. It is very delicate and has broken the nose gear every single time I did any kind of nose down landing. The repair is very difficult. Despite nose gear being an extreme weakness, the the manufacturer apparently expects you to cut the entire plane in half to replace it. It will not roll in grass at all. Instead it always flips onto the nose. I gave it a three on quality because it is a very sharp looking plane, and everything worked out of the box. Had I known how delicate the plane was, I would have never gotten it. This plane is definitely for the experienced pilot who wants a good looking Foamie plane with decent flying characteristics. But just one landing in less than perfect manner will have you investing dollar after dollar for parts.
Here is what I have had to replace:
1) Prop (x2)
4) Front wheel (x2 it has broken three times, the last pretty much finishing off the plane)
I have 5 flights from this plane, and admittedly, I am not the best pilot in the world but I swear I have seen much harder landings from other planes with little or no front end damage. Almost to the member, I have been told the T28D Trojan is a much more durable plane and able to handle mistakes. I have seen them and they roll much better on grass. Not only that, they fly better too. I am so sorry I ever bought this plane and now that it is done, I will never get another Hobbico product again.
