Marlin 64mm EDF PNP

Arrows AH009P Airplane Electric PNP
In Stock
$199.99
This plane is a Plug N Play version and includes servos, motor, ESC, but does NOT include the transmitter receiver, battery or charger.
  • Marlin 64mm EDF PNP

Something different! The Arrows Marlin 64mm EDF is an ALL NEW design with the beginner to intermediate pilot in mind. This plane has a more robust fixed landing gear than most, to handle bumpy landings. More importantly it is the only plane in its class to have flaps to shorten takeoff, and to make approaches and landings more like those of a high wing trainer. The 3150kV motor combined with a 40 Amp ESC, and a powerful 64mm 11 blade EDF, ensure plenty of power for takeoff and maneuvers. The fan sounds like a real turbine.

This plane basically has eight screws and some servo connections to complete assembly. No glue is necessary, and because we use 8 servos we are not running a lot of control rods around. Even the nose wheel has it's own servo. Flap and aileron connections are made with ball linkages, for greater strength at higher speeds. A latch type canopy makes in flight canopy loss a thing of the past.

If you are looking for a first EDF to try, or are looking to move up to a EDF without spending a bundle, this plane is for you.

    A great first EDF

I have flown my Marlin 11 times using Roaringtop 2700 4S batteries with excellent results. The battery is positioned approx. 1/4" from the front of the battery tray. I set my timer at 4 min. 30 sec. and then land. I have flown as long as 5 min. 10 sec., a go around, and still had 50% left in the batteries. I fly around 60% throttle about 75% of the time and higher the rest. I thought the surface travels were very conservative so I set my surface travels at 50% higher than suggested and this works great for a intermediate level flyer like me. If you are a more experience flier then you may want to increase them, but start low and then go higher.

I been in the hobby slightly less that 2 years. This is a great first EDF and the flaps option is a nice extra for getting used to bigger EDF planes, if that is in your future. The flaps do not have any suggested settings so I have my takeoff flaps set at -55% and landing flaps set at 7% on a Spektrum DX8. I and the group at the field are amazed at how well the plane flies and I have no problem setting her on the runway. There are a couple of other guys now looking at the Marlin as a first EDF.

I am using a reprogrammed AR636A receiver with 3 flight modes. Not sure if stabilization is needed, it flies very stable in near calm conditions. I do have the receiver setup in 3 flight modes, zero setting in mode 1, and stabilization set in flight modes 2 and 3. Mode 2 has 40% rate gains across the board and mode 3, has 55% rate gains across the board. Priority for mode 2 and 3 are set at 110. The plane flies with no flutter at full throttle on those settings and is rock steady in winds to 15 mph.

If you are looking for an EDF, get this one to start, it has an excellent price and is easy to fly.

This little jet flies great, very stable in the air even without a gyro. Short takeoffs with flaps or will hand launch easy enough. Gear is rugged & doesn’t bend with not so perfect landings. I have many EDF’s - the Marlin is one of my favorite’s.

    Marlin My First EDF

    Quality

    Fun

    Value

    Durability

    Appearance

The Marlin is my first EDF plane I have been flying Warbirds and Sport planes since 2011. I would classify myself as an Intermediate Pilot . After seeing this airplane on Pilot Ryan and Captain Mike’s YouTube podcast and talking to Ryan he convinced me to try this as my first EDF plane. I have a lot of 4s batteries and didn’t really want to jump into the 6s realm so this appeared to be a good option to get started in Jets. Now for a review of the Marlin.
    Pros
The assembly could not have been easier it literally took less than 10 minutes to assemble.
All the screws are the same so no searching for the right screw.
All the screws are 2mm hex no worries about stripping screw heads.
The fit and finish of the pieces were nice no big gaps.
Ample room in the battery bay for the battery, receiver, and gyro if you want. The battery tray has enough room to use several sizes of batteries and still be able to move the battery forward or back to achieve proper c/g. I preferred an Admiral 3000 4s 35c about 3/4 to 1 inch back from the front of the battery bay.
Ball linkages on all control surfaces for positive control with no slack.
Flaps for shorter take offs and nice controlled landings.
No retracts for those who are newer to EDF’s less to worry about.
Flight characteristics on this airplane are amazing. It does whatever you in put with no weird tendencies and is very stable in all flight modes. The wing loading is nice and light.
Power is ample. It has plenty of power to do any maneuver with a little in reserve if needed.
Good flight times. With my preferred battery an Admiral 4s 3000 mah 35c I could fly 4 minutes at 60 to 75 percent throttle with a couple of full speed passes and land with 3.8 per cell. This would allow you enough battery reserve to go around again if needed.

    Cons
The nose gear strut wire is very soft and bends easily. The top wire piece above the connection collar will bend if you have the slightest bounce on landing or land on grass. The upper wire will break where the flat is for the grub screw after you straighten it a couple of times.
The steering servo is also weak and should be an all metal gear servo. Mine stripped the first time I went of the side of my paved runway onto the grass.

    Conclusion
I would strongly recommend the Marlin to anyone who is comfortable flying most Warbirds and  Sport type airplanes. It is a great option for anyone like me that wanted to try EDF Jets but wasn’t ready to jump into the bigger 6s powered  EDF Jets.

    Great New Favorite Plane

    Quality

    Fun

    Value

    Durability

    Appearance

My jet arrived in perfect condition. I did have a problem connecting the horizontal stabilizer to the fuselage. If you grab the rudder and gently move it forward the stabilizer will shoehorn in perfectly.

For the maiden flight I used a 4 cell 2200 LiPo.  My clubs field is grass covered and is 600 X 300 feet, eliminating the need for flaps on takeoff. Ground handling is great with the steerable front wheel.

I was surprised at how easy the takeoff was.  The Marlin is very stable and tracked nicely even in a 5 to 8 mph wind. The speed and jet sound make it great fun to fly. To play it safe I set the timer to 3 minutes and measured the power remaining. After 32 flights I determined (based on how I fly) 4 minutes for the 2200s and 5 for the 2500s.

You will be amazed how far this plane will deadstick without landing flaps.  I used the right out of the box setting (about half flaps) and made nice 3 point landings. This is a great plane at a great price.

On the down side (and I'm nitpicking here) a front wheel the same size as the main wheels would improve landings and takeoff s on grass.  Also on one flight I experienced a power loss after takeoff which quickly disappeared.  After landing I noticed grass clippings around part of the belly intake screen and grass clippings in the tailpipe.  It might be a better idea to locate the intake on top of the fuselage.  All in all, if you buy this EDF you won't regret it, the fun factor is that high.

    Appearance

This jet is nothing short of amazing, especially for the price. It flies so solid, almost like my Avanti 80MM. Plenty of vertical and aerobatic performance, and over 4 min on 3300 battery. Assembly is easier than any plane I've put together, fit and finish is just flawless., you can't tell where the fuselage ends and canopy begins, it's that seamless. Overall weight was 34 oz with 2200 battery, not much heavier than my stinger 64, but I enjoy the flights better with this one. Flaps slow plane down to a crawl. Only weak point is the front landing gear servo, mine makes a noise when turning sharp and gets a little stuck. Has not failed yet though.

I really enjoy flying this aircraft, flaps at this price is unheard of. It handles great in the air with very good stability. You don't need a huge take off and landing area to fly this plane. The one wing construction is great and it is built to last.

This is my first EDF and I'm glad I chose it. I've been flying for quite some time, but mainly focused on aerobatic planes. Many 64mm EDF's are under-powered, lack a rudder, and do not seem very durable. Virtually no other has flaps, which are helpful to slow these slippery planes for smaller landing areas. The Marlin is a peach, with plenty of power, an effective rudder (knife edge flight is straightforward), and responsive flight characteristics, while being a great first EDF with which to have a good experience. The jet flies better than many of my other planes and looks terrific. All the normal aerobatic maneuvers are straightforward. One of my flying buddies says it looks like a baby Avanti S, which is a big compliment. After a few bouncy landings, the nose gear failed. A quick call to Dan was all it took to get the parts needed on the way. He was extremely helpful and quick to both admit the weakness and have improved parts ready to go. As a side note, Dan says they are going to be bringing out additional EDF's soon. I'll keep a watch for them.

I flew the marlin off a dirt run way, it jumped up in the air with half flaps, in low rates. It flew great, easy to fly i have a gyro in and it made it look like there was no wind at all. It's rock solid flight even for a novice like me was effortless. All in all a great plane but you do have to fly it to a landing.

I love flying the Marlin because it tracks like it's on rails and the sound is great. No whiney fan noise just smooth air trusting out of the rear. Keep the nose high on approach and come down on the mains for nice greased in landings. One more thing; I had a slight problem with the nose gear as I was one of the first to buy the Marlin from Hobby Zone. I called them up to talk about the gear and they promptly sent out new and improved
gear at no cost. That is what I call great service!!

This is a great EDF trainer. This airplane fly's great and you cannot beat the price. I have seen this recommended as a great first EDF, and that is true. It also would not upset me if someone picked this up as a first low wing trainer, the flight characteristics are that stable. Plane glides great and flaps make for controllable landings. Very satisfied with this plane. Great job Arrows!

I have been looking for a first time jet that I would not have to buy 6 cell batteries for and the Marlin fit the bill. Very easy to assemble and the foam finish is very good. My only complaint is the plane manual calls for CG between 80- 90 and with a 4s 3000 it was almost impossible to balance. Then I looked at the Hobby Zone site specs and it says CG should be 72-75. Now it balances at perfectly. I've seen this problem before with manufactures specs specifically with FMS. Dealers should bring it to manufacturers attention.

The rave reviews on the Marlin are true folks! Not only is it both forgiving AND a capable aerobat,  This plane can take a punishing with little damage.  The Marlin's landings in gusty winds were well behaved but my lack of skill still ended up flipping it and cartwheeling it and bouncing it....all with just some minor road rash.  A lesser plane would have gone to the hospital.  I LOVE this plane!!!

Have to say, I was really surprised at this one. At this price point you’re getting a high-quality 64 mm trainer jet. But you can do a lot more with it, it all depends on your experience level. I flew with a roaring top 3300 35c, and also on a admiral 4000.  Both of these packs are more than the recommended size,  but the plane handled it no problem. Just make sure you push them far back enough so you can get the proper CG .   I installed a lemon Gyro in it.  I maiden the plane on a really windy day, the Gyro really did help it out. I believe you don’t need a Gyro as long as it’s not too windy, hopefully I’ll put some video up without the Gyro if the wind ever stops blowing .  I highly recommend this EDF.  Five out of five stars.   Here’s a link to my maiden video, make sure you check out Don’s RC airplanes for more videos  https://youtu.be/MaFXB0zsgrM

    The Marlin is Fantastic!

    Quality

    Fun

    Value

    Durability

    Appearance

The Marlin is a fantastic airplane. One of the absolute best foam airframes I have seen. It's beautiful. Simple, and cheap. It uses less expensive 4S batteries common to those who fly say the Timber X, many warbirds, and the like.

The manufacturing is at least as good as FMS, E-Flite, and Freewing. Maybe even better. Decals are applied perfectly and no bubbles. The wing uses machine screws that go through plastic fittings in the wing then mate into brass threads in the fuselage. The fit and finish is perfect. I was truly impressed by the quality. It is extremely light. Much lighter than other similar products and this obviously contributes to its handling due to lower wing loading.

I only have 4 flights but wow! This airplane flies beautifully. It tracks perfectly and has no bad habits that I could wring out. It is just a joy to fly and I felt very confident with it within minutes. Very stable and plenty of power. I was flying it with an Admiral 3000 4S. I was landing it too fast though. I needed to just slow it down and the landings would have been great. Almost relaxing. The only issue I had was I lost radio contact to it twice on different flights. It happened in the same spot after I turned final. I am not sure if all control was lost or just power. If this is a RX issue, then obviously the airplane is not at fault. The only other thing I could think of is a faulty ESC.

In any case, not too much damage. She still flies great. I will swap out the Admiral RX and put in an actual Spektrum RX. I have another Admiral RX that I have not had an issue with.

If you want an inexpensive EDF with very good performance and super fun to fly and uses cheap 4S batteries, then the Marlin is a good choice. Really fantastic airplane. Would love to see it with retracts! ;-)

I will definitely be looking at more Hobby Arrows in the future.

I've had this flying for a couple of weekends now and it's a fun flying jet. Take offs have been smooth and with flaps it can slow down for nice easy flying. Raise the flaps and you can speed things up. Came in for a landing, got a little slow and dropped it about 10 ft and no damage, another landing and a wing caught a weed and cartwheeled the plane, just lightly bent the nose. Holding up pretty good!

I purchased the Marlin about a month ago and installed a lemon gyro receiver. On the day of the maiden flight two very experienced club members and I checked the direction of travel in the safe setting and the stabilizer setting and found all control surfaces moving in the correct directions. we did not thing to check it in the off position to see if surfaces were moving in the right directions .One of the three of us who has the most experience tried to take the airplane off.It crashed at full throttle the nose broke off in front of the wing and the right was bent straight up in the air. We than found that the aileron control surfaces were reversed. The plane looked like it was a total loss but the more experienced guy who had been flying it took it and did an amazing repair job. I have been flying it since and have really it. If using a lemon receiver check it in all modes before flying. Hobby zone are great people to do business with.

The Marlin is an awesome jet. I am so glad the elite f15 was out of stock because I found this plane after and couldn't be happier. I wanted a good first time edf and this is definitely it. With the flaps my landings are as smooth as can be. The plane can cruise super slow or light it up blazing fast.
Not sure what happened with shopping, took almost a month. I ordered something from China the same day and received it before. I was worried with the extra time sitting and being moved around in shopping it would be damaged but thankfully they didn't just send it in its box like other companies, they put it inside a larger box which took all the damage.
Bottom line I've had dozens of planes and this is by far my favorite!!!

I only have one negative, why did I buy this earlier? I recommend this to anybody getting into EDF for the first time. It also comes with the standard size of 2200mah lipos. I mean what else can you ask for we have ton of these type of batteries in stock. Designer Eng's excellent work!

Awesome little jet. We now have 6 of these at our club's field and everyone is really impressed with how well they fly , sound and take a not so perfect landing. Our club has a well manicured grass field and these jets have no problems getting off the ground. The decals easily come off for some fun custom paint jobs. At this price you can't go wrong. Make sure and purchase the upgraded front gear, this has been the only weak point of this jet.

Assembly was a breeze. Flights over 4 minutes with 2200 4s. Wing loading is very light so the plane slows down nice on approach. Not typical for EDF jets. behaves well in the air. Try to squeak the landings in. If you screw it up this plane will porpoise on landing. The good news is mine is fine after a few cartwheels. Durability seems awesome! Great value for the price!

Easy to fly. VERY fun. I had to lower the rates substantially. Obviously different flight characteristics from ALL my traditional prop planes. Got to say this is such a nice change. Straight as an "Arrow" (pun intended) on run up. I needed maybe 3 clicks of down elevator and that's it. My initial landings were pretty ugly. But are improving. I am finding that minimal flaps keeps thing a bit more predictable on takeoffs and especially landings. Like I mentioned. You should own one.

....as your first or twentieth EDF. I am thankful the E-flite Habu STS 70mm EDF Smart Jet PNP is not available until almost 2021. I "was" close to pulling the trigger on it. The Marlin is simple, FUN and solid . 20 minute assembly time. I needed maybe 3 clicks of elevator and it fly's straight and level. My first few landings were a bit rough since its flight characteristics are, of course, different than my traditional prop planes. The rates on mine have been reduced pretty dramatically. 50% with 20% expo it what I use currently. And it still responds VERY well. My flaps are set at 30% for half flaps and 60% for full. I have only used half for both take offs and landings and that seems more than adequate for me. This plane is such a great change of pace and I look forward to flying it everyday. As I mentioned, you should own one too.

This is a great EDF jet. With a 64mm EDF, but it is larger than most in this class. It is light, and easy to fly. Tracks well, no need for a gyro. Fast when you want it to be, slow when needed, with or without flaps. Inexpensive, and uses a 4 cell 2200 - 3300 mah battery. I use both, 2200 all the way forward, and 3300 towards the rear. I like that it has fixed gear, this adds to its ease of flying. I have many other EDF jets, but I fly this one the most.

I was blown away at the performance and capability of this jet. I put an admiral rx600 stability rx flying with a dx6e and maiden flight was amazing. This plane is awesome and easy to fly, fast, affordable, efficient and very well built. easy to put together, easy to land, easy to change batteries, and the flight times are great. i flew on a 2200 first flight, 6 mins without the alarm going off, second flight on a 3300 got 10 mins of flight time. I love this jet its got it all, flaps, steering, rudder, smooth and fast response with 30% expo on high rates. I dialed in the gyro down alittle more and its flying on rales. I cant wait to fly it at the beach and really enjoy all the open space and out over the ocean. Best choice of jet for sure thanks alot Arrows and hobbyzone great jet!!

The second this jet was in the air I was completely relieved how amazing it flies. On the first flight I greased the landing, perfect loops and rolls, and the flaps slow it down and keep it flying and an astonishing low speed. I love this model its what I fly at the local airport and at the beach. It can really rip or can just cruise around low and slow.

I bought the Marlin 64mm jet with the intention of doing a motor/esc swap. I ended up putting in the 12-blade EDF and motor from the Arrows Mig-29 Jet. This is a 6s system and drops right in. Only thing you need to do is upgrade to a 60a esc, as the stock 40a esc does not power up on 6s. I run a 6s lipo battery, as this is roughly the same weight as a 2200mah 4s. After all is said and done, I have a great sounding, consistent 100mph jet that runs for a solid 3min on an 1800mah 6s. And the batteries are cheaper. Does it run good on 4s? Of course it does. I just have that urge to modify and upgrade every plane I get.

This 64mm Marlin grooves like it's on rails. Flies super on batteries from 3000 mah down to 1600's with just a couple clicks of elevator trim. Flaps work great on landing with no trim change, just keep around 15% throttle on and grease it in with the nose up a little. Flies rock solid around center and has enough power to do vertical eights with outside snaps. Knife edge is sweet too! Set timer for 4 minutes and you'll have time for a couple landing attempts if you booger it up.

I currently fly 12 different planes. I am very impressed with the Marlin because it gives the most value for the purchase price and it is predictable in it`s flight characteristics. Set the correct CG with 2200 mAh batteries and landing is sweet. I added the Marlin to my fleet because I did not have a jet that uses 2200 mAh Lipo which I use in my park fliers plus I now use the Marlin as my warm up jet before I fly my F16 & L39.
If you are sitting on the fence make the purchase you will not be disappointed.

    Docile - for a jet!

    Appearance

I'm an intermediate flyer with a handle on a variety of warbirds, scale and aerobatic planes but have always shied away from EDF jets because of the number I've seen go down at our field, usually a result of a stall because the pilot forgets the only wind over the surfaces is from speed. Still, I've always been intrigued and figured that some day I would own one.

Well, perfect storm of item on sale and an empty spot in my hanger and it was time to bite the bullet. Construction and foam quality is way beyond this price point, very pleasant surprise. Assembly is a breeze unless you're like me and like every servo on the different channel and trying to run dual servo leads inside the fuselage back to the receiver (just use the Y connector, no real good reason to have separate channels). I like to set my ailerons up to be used as speed brakes and so two channels makes that a fairly easy task to accomplish although with the flaps on this plane, speed brakes will cause more crashes than anything.

Might mention that they do give you an extra screw so don't spend 10 minutes trying to figure out which one you forgot! Everything fit properly, sealed the fuselage and wings with polyurethane to help with keeping the plane clean (we fly in Arizona on a dirt field and a plane can go from pristine to filthy in a long weekend).

I always go out and maiden by myself - I don't need advice and certainly don't need the humiliation if I auger it in on maiden. It needs more ground speed than a warbird but does lift gently into the air with half flaps, 50% throws on low rate and about 70% throttle. It is quicker than I was expecting and will grow tiny in a few seconds of WOT. I tend to maiden at about 5 mistakes high which gets a little touchy with a smaller airplane such as this, especially since our skies are almost always cerulean blue which makes this easy to lose.

Literally two clicks of aileron and it was flying straight and level at 60-70% throttle. DO NOT let off the throttle in turns with a jet as it will surely fall out of the sky so I heeded my own advice and fly a racetrack pattern, tested roll rate (good), flies inverted well, not a lot of rudder authority for knife edges or aerobatics in general and I'm not comfortable that I could recover from a bad stall just yet. Landing was with full flaps and it wanted to carry a bit of speed even then. Touched down nicely on the mains but I will still holding elevator and so it bounced a bit but no damage. Few more flights and landings were getting much easier but still with full flaps.

My setup is a 2200mah 4S, all the way forward, receiver mounted a bit forward and all the battery wiring is tucked up around the battery itself to give it as much nose weight as possible. CG worked out to 78mm with this setup but didn't fly tail heavy at all so while 72-75 is probably better, there is some leeway in the numbers.

I would not jump from a high wing prop trainer into this airplane unless you like rebuilding things. It's probably most comparable to my P-51 Mustang as far as need speed in turns, lands a little hot and can get away from you pretty quickly if you aren't paying attention.

How good is it? As soon as they go on sale again, I will order one to keep in the box. Another club member ordered the Bearcat during the last sale and is equally impressed with that plane so I think Arrow hobby is now a go to manufacturer for me and Hobby Zone a very good company to do business with.

If you are comfortable flying a low wing sport plane you need to treat yourself and buy this plane. The "Fit and Finish" in excellent. It fly's great. It's quick and the vertical will blow your socks off. 3 function flaps work very well. Half flaps for take off, full flaps for landing at a super price. My only down check on this bird is a relative weak nose wheel. It seems to bend easily after only a few grass landings, even still. it's a solid bird!

The reason I purchased this jet is because it has all the features I wanted. A 4S battery, which I have plenty of. Non-retracts landing gear, which is durable, so I don't need to hand launch it.
A rudder, which is essential, when doing steep bank turns, so you don't lose altitude. Flaps which come in handy on low wind days. While it can do all the maneuvers, including knife-edge, you can tune it down, to make it acceptable for the beginner jet pilot (like me) to make it fly like a normal plane. BTW, I do recommend mixing aileron with opposite rudder if you don't want this plane to fall out of the sky when you bank hard. Just wish it came with stripes on the bottom of the wing to make it more visible.

This is actually my 3rd EDF.  I purchased the E-flite F-16 and F-15 previous to this.  I wasn't considering any other EDFs because, frankly, the F-16 and F-15 were fun to fly, but at the same time, they seemed more stressful to fly than my prop planes.  They kind of reminded me of helicopters which I rarely fly any more.  My first flight with Marlin was an amazing experience.  Normally maidens for me are just a few circuits and learning how the plane reacts.  With my Marlin, I was doing loops, rolls, inverted passes, etc because it felt so solid and predictable.  I compare it to my Bigfoot in that I can feel comfortable doing any maneuver with that plane.  Same with the Marlin.  It's just a heck of a lot faster than my Bigfoot.  Meanwhile, I still mainly do speed runs with the F-15 & F-16.   My car is going to get a bit more crowded now because I always take my Bigfoot with me, and now it seems like I'll always be taking my Marlin along as well.

Admittedly this is my 1st EDF jet, but it's very easy to fly, 1/2 flaps on take off shortens the roll on the bumpy grass field I fly from. The gear is pretty robust which is a must at my club's field. I've bent the front gear a few times on hard landings but bends back fairly easily. The 12-blade EDF has a fairly realistic sound and has good power. If I were to have any complaints is that it'll drain a battery pretty quickly, I get 3 to 3 1/2 minutes with a 2800mAh battery. All in all, I highly recommend this jet!!

The Marlin is very well built and looks equally good too. Assembly is just a breeze. As most people said, it flies very stable on 4s 2200mAH battery. The only thing I wish it had better is the landing gear. The wheels are a bit small (especially the front wheel) and little hard for my landing strip. I will try to modify it with a little bigger and softer wheels.

From the reviews, the front landing gear seems to be a weak point so I ordered a spare set with the plane just in case. HobbyZone's shipping was fast and service was very good as always. Thanks Dan.

First EDF purchase. Very good quality. The hardest part of assembly was attaching the elevator assembly. Connecting the servos was not easy.  Limited space. Had to disconnect the rudder control linkage to swing rudder for clearance  to mount the assembly.  The aircraft flys really well fast and slow.   The flaps really help.
Especially with landings. Flying on a grass field. New to flying an EDF most of my landings have been very rough. Some of them, like minor crash landings. Landing Gear has has taken a lot of abuse and survived with some front gear bending and main gear mounting plate cracking that has been fixed. Rate gear to be fairly tough.  If you purchase this,  you will not be disappointed.

I bought this jet to be my first jet with landing gear. Also my first 64mm. Very happy with how it flies and settles in for landings.  Has enough power and not to intimidating as far as speed. Can slow down well and  somewhat forgiving on landings. Had many bad ones and all I needed to do was bend front gear back and reinforce the nose. Lands best for me with CG towards the back.  Each day I fly it I get more comfortable and have smoother landings.
I think this is a great jet trainer. Two people at my field have ordered one and a few more are planning to. It is a beautiful little jet.

A Great Fun little EDF Jet.

    Appearance

I have been R/C flying for over 18 years and at 83 I decided to try an EDF Jet??? FUN, FUN, Fun!!!

I also Have the Habu PNP, which is similar in flight characteristics, just a little bigger and no flaps.

Hobby Zone's service and website detail are first class and their phone response to questions and suggestions is outstanding. The Arrows Marlin was very easy to assemble with the 4 pieces, wheels and 8 screws. I have flown it with three different HRB 4S batteries (2600,3000 and 3300) ( weight 9.3, 11, & 12 oz) The difference is about 1/2 minute per battery from 4+ to 5+ minutes with 24% voltage remaining. It balances with the 2600 all the way back and the 3000, 1/2 " forward and 3300, 1 " forward. As you add weight the plane gets a little more stable and requires a little more power and elevator to land. I take off with 1/2 flaps ( 36*) It tales about 60 feet of runway, and land with the same. Although, on our 1" grass runway it really doesn't need the landing flaps. The Marlin is easy to fly for an experienced pilot. After maiden takeoff, which was smooth and straight, I needed less than 2 clicks of trim, most of this trim is due to battery placement. It flies very nicely and is responsive and easy to see in the air, The Marlin is a bit faster than the Habu using similar batteries, probably due to the size a weight. It easily does Loops, rolls, Splt-s and all the scale jet maneuvers. The landings are like all tricycle gear planes ESPECIALLY jets. You have to fly the plane on to the runway allowing the main gear to touch down first and then the nose wheel comes down to smooth out the landing and allow a smooth taxi. If a jet lands on all 3 wheels or is too slow it will bounce and since there is no prop wash, there is no air over the flying surfaces and no stick control! So each bounce gets higher till it cartwheels ...UGH!!!! So! Keep the nose wheel 2-3" high and bleed off the speed with the elevator controlling the height with the throttle for a perfect landing. I have 20 flights on my Marlin and I am loving the thrill of flying my EDF JETS!!!! Great plane and service!!

The MARLIN 64 mm EDF Sport Jet is a Great Value

The  MARLIN 64 mm EDF Sport Jet is a Great Value!
As the owner of ten EDF  planes I can tell you If you are looking for a new Sport Jet look no further than the Arrow R/C 64 mm EDF MARLIN Sport-Jet.
She's sleek jet with everything you'd expect form a Sport Jet and more.
I put mine together in just a few minutes and setup her ailerons , elevator, flaps and rudder (all with ball-joint connectors) and was down at the field flying this sleek wonder in no time.
She is a dream in the air. The 64 mm EDF will take her straight up like a rocket. With a standard 2200 4S a  four minute flight is pretty typical. She is a swift bird but If you can keep your hand off the throttle you can coax more flight time out of her.
I like the 1/2 flap setting for take-off and and the full flaps for smooth landings. The fixed coiled landing gear are grass field ready  and she takes off and lands with ease. You'll love the roomy cockpit and the TX niche.
You can't beat the MARLIN Sport Jet for features for the money.
Heck, I'm going to get another one just so I'll have two.

The Marlin is a great first EDF Jet. It is very stable and predictable. It is great to learn how to use flaps. The flaps are great to slow down your landing making them a lot easier. I am on my second one right now. Do not let yourself get over confident and distracted during a low level inverted flyby. Oh! Did I say you cannot beat the price for the quality. Very easy to put together. Everything fits great. Cannot say enough good about this plane. No re-tracks but that means less to worry about if you have a hard landing.

After about 20 yrs of stepping away from powered RC I picked up some EDF Jets starting with the Avanti S which was a great choice. The Marlin was something to play around with and what a surprise it was. Flies very much like the Avanti but in a smaller package. Honestly love how stable it is and its quickness. Take the gear off and just underhand hand launch. Looks cleaner in the air and you will not have the issue with bouncing on landings which seems to be a problem with some of these lighter edfs. You will need to get some control horn covers to protect the arms from damage if belly landing with no gear. I find the 2200 4S packs are the preferred size, as the 2600 add too much weight. Flights are around 3min, when using mainly half throttle and a few passes at full.

Love this one and recommend it even as a first edf.

I received my Marlin a week ago and have flown it about 20 times. It is such a fun little plane. Flies like its on rails. Super stable, yet very agile. I used an AR636B receiver with SAFE select setup. After the first couple of flights I found I rarely use the SAFE mode. The roll rate is great. With full flaps it lands slow and easy. I have found a 3000mah 4S placed right in the middle of the battery tray seems to work very well. 5 minute flights are typical with this battery. I am very pleased with the Marlin. My only regret is that I did not buy one sooner.

A fun 4S EDF.  Flies well, not too big, a lot of fun to fly.  Uses affordable 4S Lipos.  Assembly is easy, though the rear servo wires are a little fiddly to get into place.  I fly it without stabilization on an AR620 mounted on the side.  Using a larger 3000 4S 35C Admiral Lipo.  I have to push the battery way back (only using one velcro strap) to get the CG good.   Note to designers.... please design the hatch and plywood to give easy access to a larger range of batteries .  Hatch could have been extended back and inch or two.

Fun to fly and slows down to make landings easy.  Not sure how tough the gear are, but going slow and smooth certainly reduces the banging the gear will take.

Highly recommended as a 1st or 2nd EDF.

The marlin is an excellent EDF trainer. I found assembly quick and easy to do. The one concern I had during assembly was my esc was loose, a quick solution was to use a piece of servo tape to stick it in position. Everything else was straight forward. The first flight was great and flew without any trimming. Landing is great with the flaps, but still keep the speed up. I bounced mine on the maiden and put some scratches on it, no worries though... It's a trainer. Overall... 5 stars!

As others in the forums this jet has an issue with the front landing gear, The rod connecting servo arm to the front landing gear breaks and there is NO replacement part offered for this jet. So unless you are good at diy replacement parts i would pick a different jet. One of the guys at my field is going to try and make a replacement rod for me. Also the front servo gears are plastic and strip easy.

On a positive not before the gear broke it had no issues taking off from the grass runway.

(Note from Dan, We had the factory obtain higher tensile strength steel gear. We then have packaged it with the plastic servo arm, and collet, and included this spare set in every new plane. We have been shipping them to anyone who notified us of a problem with their gear)

First the bad, then the good. The nose gear is insufficient for anything other than perfect landings on hard-surface runways. I land on hard-pack dirt and had to repair my gear after the second landing. The servo stripped and I replaced it with a 90-degree metal gear servo. The upper gear piece snapped off at the detention. The lower gear piece remained intact. I have replaced the upper gear piece twice already even though I land on the mains. However, this is a great jet. I love the styling and it has plenty of power. The flaps help for shortening the takeoff and landing rolls. The construction is otherwise solid with alot of extras like the hatch-latch and ball joint control rods. It is a great beginner EDF for experienced RC pilots wanting to add a jet to their collection. Fix the nose gear and this would be a GREAT jet!

The product arrived amazingly quick after it was ordered. Great packaging. Very easy to assemble. Maiden flight went great. On the second flight I came in a little hard and the nose gear bent. I have since ordered and received (once again very quickly) the heavy duty nose gear replacement.  I haven't yet had

I’m an EDF rookie, so this was a challenge to fly - steep learning curve for me.  Had to put nose weight in to get proper balance.

I wish that these jet foamies were reinforced between the leading edge to the front. With the weight of the battery foreword of the wing they alway seem to crack there. Beside that I would buy one again and have recommended the Marlin to other flyer.

Big bang for the buck. Flys well on a 2200mah 4s. Likes 50c with longer flights on a 75c. With good throttle management I'm getting 5 minute flights.
It's very predictable and the flaps are quite effective. My only concern was the lack of cooling for the battery so I designed a vent which can be found under my profile on Prusa. https://www.printables.com/search/all?q=Guyzerr

Great jet for beginners. Easy to fly. Nose gear is still too weak. Unless you make a perfect landing it will bend. Very dense durable foam. Very easy to assemble. My first jet. If you are a new pilot use a gyro.

When I first got this plane, the first thing I did was take the landing gear off. We have a rough Grassfield makes it very hard take off and land. Since removing the gear I have had launched it 10 to 12 times without any issues. With that being said, this thing has power galore, I installed my GPS and with  a little bit of a tail wind I was able to get 91 miles an hour. It  is very stable in the air and always impresses people at the field. The biggest thing about it is everyone can’t believe that I can hand launch it by myself , don’t be scared to try this for your first yet. You will have a great time!!!

    Amazing little plane!

Build quality is great. Material, molded parts, glued pieces, servo mounting, etc. Good quality hardware everywhere.
Very well deigned! Super easy assembly, large hatch with it a locking latch mechanism.
Super durable! I have flown 13 packs so far. All my landings were miserable (yes, this is my EDF trainer-still practicing landing with flaps).
Landing gear is perfectly intact! Nose gear bent back a little but that's it!
I take off and land from a horrible grass surface. To make it worse, the lawn was just aerated. The landing gear was just bumping over those cylindrical chunks of soil without a problem.
The EDF is very quiet but when there is no other source of noise , you can hear a beautiful whooshing sound.
Customer service is also great. My aileron servo was not behaving normally and Hobby Zone immediately shipped a replacement without asking any questions.
I highly recommend this plane if you like any of the items below:
    - Quiet jet with a nice jet sound
    - Easy to fly EDF trainer
    - Fly off the grass
    - Durable small EDF
    - Customer Service
    - Good price
    - Rudder and flaps
    - Relatively high speed fly-by!

This is my first EDF and it has been a blast to fly, Was concerned it might be too much plane for me as I'm older than dirt but no issues at all. Have tried both a 2200 and 3300 Lipo packs. The 3300 seems to fly the plane better with its added weight and the added flight time is well worthwhile. Would like to see the nose gear strengthened to be durable on grass fields. Otherwise a pleasure to drop a battery in and go fly!
