  • P-51 Mustang 1100mm PNP V2 "Detroit Miss"

The North American P-51 Mustang was, without a doubt, one of the most famous World War II P-51 fighter aircraft. As a symbol of Allied air power, this single seater aircraft was fitted with the legendary Merlin engine- giving it unmatched range and airspeed. Protecting bombers on extended missions, these aircraft were a welcomed sight for the bomber crews.

Arrows has faithfully replicated the P-51- from riveted panels, machine guns, engine exhaust pipes and retractable landing gear. Arrows also spent great engineering effort with the airframe, the glue-less construction makes getting the aircraft ready for flight an extremely simple process, while the 40A ESC, 3536 850kV power system gives the P-51 incredible performance. Ready for any scale maneuvers, the Arrows P51 is your key to becoming the ace at your field!

    Appearance

This is a beautifully done P-51D Mustang that flies as well as it looks. It was designed around a 2200 3S battery that fits perfectly in the nose of the plane and balances out perfectly with the battery slid all the way in. When you put the canopy down it will actually secure the battery from possibly sliding back and throwing off your CG of while in flight. A 4S battery won’t fit unless you want to remove a fair bit of foam, which I may very well look at doing. As with other Arrows’ RC planes, it is very well built and easy to put together. I liked the detail and the quality of the craftsmanship that went into this plane, as with the other Arrows' RC planes that I have. Even the drop tanks are detailed out! I experienced no unusual fight tendencies and was quite impressed with its slow speed characteristics with the flaps dropped. I do wish it had a bit more power, as I found its speed adequate, but not impressive, as I was running a 2200 3S 80C battery in it. Nonetheless, a beautiful plane to do flybys with and is basically just as good looking on the ground as it is in the air. Arrows makes great quality flying planes for the money and this is my third Arrows in my fleet of 55+ planes. They’re just plane fun!

Hooked it up with the AR630 AS3X/SAFE 6 channel. Flys great! If you go with this receiver, you will need to have forward programming for all the bennies. It flys very smooth once you get used to it. It is touchy without the internal help.. All in all, very cool plane!

This is a beautiful rendition of a classic P-51D Mustang. The detail is wonderful, along with the paint and preinstalled decals. I have over 55 foamy RC planes in my hanger and not one of them is of better quality than the Arrows (I also have their Bigfoot and Viper). Even if you didn’t fly Detroit Miss, it would make a great display aircraft! It’s just a gorgeous looking plane! Very easy to put together and all parts went together very solidly. It is designed specifically to accommodate a 2200 3S battery and balances out perfectly with this battery slipped all the way forward. The plane flies very nicely and exhibited no adverse flight characteristics. I installed an Admiral gyro receiver in mine and it flew great. Just a very solid aircraft in construction, build, and in the air. I personally thought it could us a bit more power than what a 2200 3S can provide. Would love to run it on a 4S, but there just isn’t enough room to fit a 4S in the battery compartment (I tried). Nonetheless, a beautiful RC aircraft to add to your collection!

I am very impressed with the Arrows Hobby line of products. This is my second Arrows plane, first was the Big Foot which I also highly recommended. This P-51 is a good looking high quality warbird and a very good value. Flys great! Very easy to assemble. I highly recommend this product and in fact just placed my prder for the Bearcat from the same line. I plan to get the Cousair as soon as it is available again.

I bought this as my third RC plane, and I really wanted a Mustang. I had a bit of a rough experience getting used to the controls, but after the learning curve I really got it down. Due to my inexperience as a pilot, I have crashed it 4 times (destroyed the nose, snapped it completely in half, etc). However, this plane proved extremely simple to repair without buying new parts (except propellers). After fixing it, it would fly just like before, like it had never crashed. Love this plane!

Great flyer with a few quirks

    Durability

    Appearance

All Arrows planes offer excellent value and flight characteristics. I own the Marlin, P51 and just recently received the F4U.
As factory assembled, the control rod from the from the tail wheel/rudder servo was binding, which stalled the servo and drastically reduced rudder throw in one direction. The fix was highly problematic as in addition to the tail wheel servo assembly being screwed into  the fuselage, the servo it self was glued in as well making removal without damage almost impossible. I broke the slotted servo arm during the removal, but was able to repair it with hot glue. I then had to bend the control rod away from the servo assembly. This solved the binding problem completely.
The only other issue is during the take off roll. Engine/propeller torque to the left is very pronounced, requiring major rudder and sometimes even a bit of aileron. However, after a few flights, it becomes easier to deal with.

Typical foam warbird. Only issues I had was the tiller arm on the tailwheel is a joke and removing it is even bigger joke. I fixed that no huge deal. I find it hard to believe people fly this on a 3 cell and not have to add nose weight. I've seen a few of these fly and they were more then a handful (appeared tail heavy and lethargic). I fly mine on a 3200 4 cell. Flys great and very well mannered.

    Decent warbird

    Appearance

As the title says, it’s decent. It’s priced very well, it looks good, it has enough power on 3s to fly scale manuevers without any issue. A couple down sides though, the silver paint flakes easily, the stock prop is an odd size, and the elevator and rudder are very touchy and need ALOT of expo, like more than you think it would need. That being said it’s pretty tough and I wouldn’t let any of that keep you from purchasing it. My own error relating to not enough expo on the tail caused a tip stall into a wooded area. My quick thinking after realizing I wasn’t saving it I full throttled right into the tree tops in hopes of it going all the way to the ground so I could atleast recover my receiver and battery. It did make it all the way to the ground with only a broken rudder tip, broken wing tip, some cracks in the center of the main wing, and a broken prop. All still fully functional. Was not expecting that so it gets a check in my book for toughness.

WELL THAT TURNED INTO 3 WEEKS OF WAITING FOR AN EMAIL WITH THE RETURN SHIPPING LABEL WHICH NEVER CAME, MANY CALLS WITH MANY EXCUSES AS TO WHY THE EMAIL WASN'T SENT YET, TO NO LONGER BEING ABLE TO GET A HOLD OF ANYONE. LUCKILY THE BATTERY WAS ONLY IN THE $40-50 RANGE BUT WE WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN, IF A LARGER MORE EXPENSIVE ORDER HAD ISSUES I WOULD NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH HAVING TO RETURN IT. Great looking plane, but watch out for those takeoffs!

    Quality

    Fun

    Appearance

While this is a gorgeous looking plane, I wouldn't rate it as a 5-start one. The biggest reason being, is that if/when you attempt to take this plane off grass, given its particular design, due to the combination of its P-Factor and torque, it will yaw/roll to the left and crash.
Watching a few videos here and there, the fix seems to be adding a bigger 4S battery (which requires changing the ESC), more nose weight and increasing rudder authority.
I've done all of the above, but haven't re-maidened it after splitting it in half. Twice!
I've read and heard that there are other P-51 offerings available with a lesser problem that this one in particular.
ArrowsRC note. All P-51s have torque roll to the left on takeoff. You control this by moderating the acceleration and give hard right rudder as you speed up. Many pilots mix rudder into there throttle control to automatically assist on this. Adding a 4s battery will make the problem worse.
