Super Cub LP BNF

The HobbyZone® Super Cub Bind-N-Fly™ version gives first-time pilots the benefit of HobbyZone’s patented Anti-Crash Technology plus the flexibility of starting with a Spektrum™ DSM2™ 2.4GHz full range aircraft radio (sold separately). With a Spektrum radio, you can teach yourself to fly or “buddy box” with an instructor. And whatever Spektrum radio you choose will grow with you as you progress to other aircraft. With the Super Cub you can teach yourself to fly by mastering the basics of throttle, steering and pitch control with the assistance of HobbyZone’s exclusive Anti-Crash Technology (ACT). ACT ensures your first flights are smooth and stable by using special optical sensors and software that analyze your flight path. If ACT “sees” you are losing control and entering a steep dive, it reacts quickly to help prevent a crash by actually helping you regain control.

After you’ve mastered the basics, you can turn Anti-Crash Technology off with the flip of a transmitter switch. With ACT off, your Super Cub will be capable of more advanced maneuvers such as steep turns, loops and tail slides.

Everything you need to get flying, except a transmitter, is included in this box and you can be up and flying in as little time as it takes to charge the battery pack and bind the transmitter. You also get the added excitement of HobbyZone’s exclusive X-Port™ technology that lets you add remotely controlled functions like parachute drops (requires Aerial Drop Module™ - (sold separately). There’s even an optional float kit (sold separately) that lets you turn any lake or pond into a back country, bush-flying adventure.

ACT and X-Port function:

The receiver included in the Super Cub LP BNF is a 2.4GHz DSM2 receiver/ESC unit. It must be partnered with a full range DSM2 transmitter. It is equipped with throttle, elevator, rudder and aileron function.

For most of the DSM2 transmitters, channel 5 will activate ACT, while channel 6 will activate the X-Port function.

For the Spektrum DX5e transmitter, the trainer switch will activate the X-Port function.

I can't say enough good things about this Bird !!!
I'm new to the sport and was not able to find anyone who could tell me anything !!!
I made some mistakes !!! BUT ... came across the Super Cub LP and decided to give it a try in a PNP. I've spent many many hours on flight sims and just knew that I could do it. Soooooo ..... one day with light winds I pointed her nose to the wind and up up and away !!!! WOW ... I was flying .... Yaaaaaaaaa
Because I was trying everything in the books with this plane I had some crashes !! All my fault !!! One time (way to much wind) Dead on hit a light pole. Hit it so hard it popped out the rear bearing on the motor. It still flew !!! Put a new motor in and away I went. This thing is TOUGH !!!!
If you want one to start with ... THIS IS IT !!!!
Now I have a ParkZone Radian and when the winds back off a little that will be my second to try and fly.
Good Flying To All !!!

This has got to be the best first airplane on the planet.

Tough, reliable and easy to fly may all sound like contrite accolades, but they are true.

The only thing I'd recommend is a little sim practice and then you're ready to go.

This is my first plane ever. This was the right choice for me. Bind and Fly. Reasonable price, and cheap and simple to repair. Had about an hour on a flight sim then bucked up and hand launched her. Have I crashed her? You bet. All of them were my fault. Very tough aircraft. Likes none or very light winds best. Only modification I did was to add some larger wheels to the landing gear as this plane tends to nose over on rough terrain when landing. Great experience. Great fun!

This is a good plane. I been flying for two months now. I crashed a lot, so I am still a newbie at it. Replacement parts are cheap so I am able to offord them. I just flew for the first time with out crashing last week. Yaaaaaa! I am getting better with it now! What is nice about this plane if you are just starting this hobby that this plane can take a lot of damage and keep on flying. I had to reglue my cub a lot of times becouse I crashed a lot. But it can take it. I am going to buy a new Super cub and upgrade it with a brushless motor. This plane is really good and I recomend it for new hobbyist. I will be buying a Radian Pro next!

I don't have the newer Super Cub, I have the original which I bought several years ago. Matter of fact I preordered it. I have tried several entry level planes and had limited success learning to fly. I finally got this one out and flew it literallly from the box. I had some experience so I didn't use ACT but I spent the next 2 years practising take offs and landings, some limited inverted flying, loops etc. This is one nice flying bird and it's tough. I taught a friend to fly last summer on one of the newer LP models. I just recommended this plane to my dentist, because he wants to learn to fly. You can't beat the price and value of this plane.

I purchased this plane a few weeks ago and I love flying it. As a beginner, I've crashed it a bunch, but it has weathered the tough landings. For a first-timer, I don't think anyone could go wrong with this plane. The anti-crash technology (ACT) feature has been no help. In fact, the ACT made it more difficult to fly for the most part and never saved me from a crash. The plane's durability on the airfield is good, but transporting is difficult with a small car because the wing's braces are affixed with screws. I've probably damaged the plane more getting it in and out of the car than crashing-landing it.

Battery life is good.
Stability is great.
Sport flying is possible (loops, upside-down, and mock-rolls)

I'd say if you want to learn to fly, go no further than this plane. It's great!

I received this plane as a Christmas gift from my wife. I'm an RC pilot who is beyond a beginner, and not quite a full fledged intermediate level yet...and this plane has been the most fun I've ever had with any of the numerous planes I've owned/crashed. The plane went together without a single issue. My wife even commented that I hadn't yelled or cussed even once! I flew the plane within 1 hour of having it at home...took it off...without a single issue...flew it...flawlessly...and landed it perfectly! I took it off and landed it 4 times without a single problem. HIGHLY recommend this plane for all levels. I'm not a stunt/adreneline pilot...I like to just fly around...this plane is PERFECT for that! I'm sold forever on Hobby Zone! AWESOME quality, easy assembly, great price, incredible fun...who needs more?

This is my first venture into E-Flite. What a thrill this little plane is. I have the Bind-n-Fly version on a Spektrum radio and have no issue what so ever. I loved it so much I went ahead and bought the floats. It is fun to fly off the water and now it's fun to fly off the snow with them, I'm going to try out the ski's next.

Highly recommended by a friend-didn't disappoint. Very tame flight characteristics, great at building confidence. Almost flies itself. It helped guarantee my intro into the hobby would be short-lived because of frustration. Have crashed it 3 times and only had to replace the tail section as the result of 1 of them. Very tough bird. People in my club with $1000's in nitro will always revert to their cub before the day is out. Very relaxing.

I had only been flying on the simulation for two months. This was my first big plane and it flies great. Only used the anti crash for my first takeoff and turned it off in the first turn and had a sucessful landing. Thanks to this plane now I own 6 more planes including the Champ & Mini Super Cub. Keep up the good work Hobby Zone.

My suggestion is to first buy a simulator, then get this plane. After much time on the simulator, I went flying. The owner of the hobby store where I bought this plane gave me instructions ... what a help. I soloed within 1/2 hour. The next time out I put 3" wheels on this bird to assist in grass take-offs.

I have never used the ACT, don't need it. If you get into trouble, just shut off the throttle and drop the stick ... it'll right itself. The last time out I flew in 12 mph winds. Although it kept your attention, it handled the wind well.

I can't say enough good about this thing. I have yet to crash it after 6 outings. It's economical, flies well, cheap parts (if you ever need them), and can be easily modified if desired. Get it, you won't be disappointed!

This plane was recommended by a friend as a good beginner plane. He was right on. I purchased the BNF Super Cub and love it. I never used a simulator to learn to fly. I have crashed the plane several times even busted the wing a couple. One time the repair required some tape and glue, the second time I had to replace the wing. This plane handles hand launches or ground takeoffs easily. I have added ailerons to my cub and it is even more fun to fly. I absolutely recommend this plane for beginners; it is durable, easy and cheap to repair. Check out the info on how to add ailerons for when you are ready, I used the instructions from above to help do mine. Happy flying.

Made the mods listed in the various forums (unplugged ACT, reinforced battery box/landing gear, beefed up behind the wing, put tape on leading edges of wing, reinforced cowl, etc.) while I was waiting for a calm day. Finally got to fly the SC this morning, and all I can say is what a great plane! Easy to fly, handles well, and flies slow so it is easy to see and track. Strongly recommend this plane!

I bought this plane after extensive research on beginner planes. I am totally new to this hobby and the only experience I have is on an old pc flight simulator program. The plane arrived in perfect condition, and assembly was simple. My first flight ended in a nose dive into a mud puddle. The plane was muddy and some water got into the electronics. I took the plane apart, cleaned and dried everything. I was expecting it to be toast. Everything worked perfectly!! Second flight went much better...with a perfect landing. This plane has been in several good crashes since, and I have yet to use any of the spare parts I purchased. A friend of mine, an experienced crop duster and avid rc enthusiast had this plane doing things I never dreamed it could do. Once I am more experienced and more confident, I will be purchasing another Super Cub to fly when I want to show off. My plane is looking like it has been in combat, but it still flies like new. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Thanks Hobby Zone!!

This plane is much easier to fly than the micro Champ I bought to learn on. It's also very easy to launch. Just be sure you're at full throttle and toss it in the air. It will start climbing without using the elevator. It actually handles pretty good in a breeze(10-15mph gusts). I did end up in some wind shear, smacked the ground and broke the tail in half. Other than that just had to recenter the wing, add little Monkey Glue and it's good as new! If I'd known it was going to be so easy to fly, I probably would've stepped up to something on a higher skill level. I'm now trying to decide which plane I want next. But if you're looking for a beginner plane, this is the one! I do recommend going to your local hobby store and practicing on their simulator if you have one in your town.

First of all it has a brushed motor. You need to know that going in. It also does not have ailerons. All the guys will tell you that you will need to do a bunch of mods. Well I want to say that if this is one of your "early" planes after say a Champ you will get many, many hours of good quality flying without making any changes. Not its not the fastest and no you cant' do a high speed low level pass upside down. But you can practice landing till you have it down cold. You can fly with a fair bit of wind. One change I did was get the big tires so I can land on grass. I can land and take of time after time just like when I was taking lessons on a similiar full size plane. You get the controls down cold so you do not have to think any more. This takes hours of flight time. With this plane you will get the hours without problems.
The gears seems to be a weak spot but it is fixable - you might want to order a spare gear box and cowl. You might also want to tape up the cowl before it gets busted up. Get the plane - read the reviews and enjoy.

I bought this to learn how to fly R/C after 30 years of control line flying. I was doing very good until one day I flew in wind that was beyond my skills and ended up putting it in a tree about 120 feet up, there it sat for 11 days and it rained 3 of them. Finally I offered a kid at the field 50 bucks to go get it. It only took him about 5 minutes and he had my Cub down. I checked it out and it seemed ok, so I put a fresh battery in it and off I went, no harm no foul, not a thing wrong with it. What a great little plane!

I have bought two of these airplanes. The first one ended up in a tree, but I thought when it eventually came down, it would be done. I bought floats for the second one and have had a ball flying floats. I have crashed both these planes several times, and they are both still flying, with a little help of Gorilla Glue. If I were to buy a beginner plane, this would be it. It crashes great, even in the water. And I can't say enough about the support I get from Hobby Zone - GREAT PEOPLE!

I received mine last night, put it together in about 15 minutes, and charged the batteries. I took it to the park today (about 9 mph max winds) and had a blast. I hand-launched and took off from the grass. The manual says to hand launch if you're inexperienced, but I don't see why. With a little head wind, it got off the ground in 10-15 ft. I landed like the manual advised by cutting the throttle at about 10 ft altitude. I did a little flare at touchdown, so even if the grass catches the wheels, the prop isn't spinning and doesn't hurt the plane if it noses in. I had many grass landings, though, without issue.

This little super cub has given me the confidence to fly the nitro trainer that I bought from Craigslist. I got the water floats and water rudder too, can't wait to try that.

I highly recommend this plane! I also would recommend a little time on a computer sim first for the absolute beginner, just to get your "lefty/righty" down pat.

I went to this plane after many heartbreaks with the Glasair. I think the Glasair is a great plane, but it didn't work for me after the Champ, too fast and complicated. The Super Cub on the other hand proved as sweet a flyer as I had hoped. It takes off from the ground with no problem, flies slow enough to allow me to think about what I was doing, and lands easily. All in all, it's helped me get the muscle and mind memory I need to handle faster 4 channel planes. I will always have a place in my garage for the Super Cub!

Ok, I got this plane off the ground on the first try. Nervous as heck, I flew around for a while and executed a safe landing. The next day I tried again after getting kicked out of the first park for "flying planes"...dang them... Word to the wise, don't fly around huge stadium light poles. I hit one dead on and damaged the prop and cowl, and some foam. However, my hobby shop had the parts and I put her back together. One complaint is about the "extra battery". It does not fit. The green battery it comes with is fine, but the yellow one is too big. It just won't fit properly in the case. I still have not figured out a way to fix this so if anyone knows, please respond. Overall, I really like the plane. I just hope I can manage to keep it in one piece!

I have a good story for this plane. I crashed this plane 40 feet up in a tree. It stayed there for about 2 months through frost, torrential downpours, 100 degree heat, 50 mph winds, hail, you name it. Eventually, I was able to get it down with a painter's extension rod. The rubber bands had disintegrated and the wing struts had broken, mildew on much of the plane, interior filled with water, bugs etc., cowl broke off exposing motor, wing had separated exposing interior.

I removed the battery and put in a fresh one. I got a blinking binding light. Couldn't believe it. Bound right away. Ruder -- check; elevator -- check. Throttle -- full blast, no hesitation -- check.

The plane isn't indestructible; I broke it in too early on. Large chunks of wing are missing. I crashed nose first at full throttle and had to replace the broken gear box and have gone through several cowls and a propeller. The wing struts are terrible and break very easily. But with some tape and Elmers, I've always been able to put Humpty Dumpty together again. And it still flies despite the extreme abuse I've put it through.

I don't give it a better review for a couple reasons. First, despite its fantastic durability, the plane seems cheap. Parts don't fit together well. Wing struts always come out. It’s Impossible to line up the wing correctly. Control surfaces seem to catch and respond unevenly. Of course it's foam, but it really looks and feels like packing peanuts.

Another thing is that the docile handling manners are a double-edged sword. You won't spin this plane over easily, but if you do get into trouble, it's hard to get out. Handling is very slow and imprecise with lots of lag. However, some aerobatics are possible. Inverted flying is not difficult, inside loops are a piece of cake, and you can even do something resembling an Immelman (remember, it's 3 channels so don't get carried away).

For newbies like myself, a few words of warning. First, despite whatever you've seen in flight simulators, you cannot launch this plane on grass. It will nose over and cut the lawn. Landing on grass is also out of the question. You will just have to nose over slowly if you get it right.

Second, this plane may be 'slow' but it's not a 'slow flyer' and should only be flown in very large open areas. One reason for this is that the sluggish handling does not allow for quick maneuvers. This is not really what I think of as a 'park flyer.'

As for the ACT, I'm really not sure what this does, if anything. It seems like a marketing gimmick.

As for power, I've read some articles that talk about upgrading to a brushless, but this seems like putting a ferrari engine in a pickup. The stock motor has plenty of power even at moderate throttle and added power is going to give you more lift, not more speed. You can also get long flight times, 15 minutes easily at low throttle, which is nice.

Personally, I would go with the ElectriFly "FlyLite" which is an ugly thing, but is a much better plane overall. But if you have a very large flight area and don't mind a plane with sluggish handling, this will give you lots of flying time and the ability to repair from almost any kind of damage.

The plane lives up to its hype. It’s a very good beginner plane; the two-axis control provides sufficient control even in a moderate wind. The ACT however is somewhat of a setback if you have flown any other two-axis planes without it. It takes over the aircraft as it is supposed to, but if you are at a low altitude (30 feet) it generally can't correct the aircraft flight to avoid a crash. My first flight was great, but I almost crashed when the ACT took over while near some trees. Luckily, I missed them. I immediately disconnected the ACT wire and have flown many enjoyable flights with no crashes since. I do love the planes stability in strong wind.

This plane is very easy to put together, except the battery compartment. There is too big of a risk of damaging the battery. I had to cut out a section close to the front landing gear to safely fit the battery. Everything else was perfect. It bound with my DX6i Spektrum transmitter with ACT included.

I am just getting this plane to fly. The quality is good, but I had to press on the decals better. I trimmed the rudder plastic pins so they fit into the tail posts, and I have not yet solved how to get the LiPo battery into the undersized compartment. The battery pack is longer than the plastic housing. Even at an angle it does not fit so the door can be closed. There are binding instructions for DX6i, but there are no suggested settings for the receiver for a beginner to follow, only for ACT and X-port. It was hard to try the first flight with the battery hanging from the plane. I think they missed this when they changed to LiPo batteries. Still, overall I like the plane so far.

Had this thing for 3 months, already replaced the ESC/Receiver twice now... Overall a fun plane to play with but it's not as sound as I had hoped... Needs more power.... Glides great though, and landing is a breeze... Nice to learn on outdoors.... Get an Ember2 and save yourself the headache...

Entire tail broke off during cartwheel bad landing. Replaced entire fuselage and the tail broke off again. Rudder bends below elevator resulting in loss of rudder control (leading to cartwheel landing. I know!, I'm supposed to land with wings level but this is suppose to be a trainer, meaning rough landings should be survivable. The tail section and rudder should be much stronger.

This is a nice plane overall, but ACT is pure garbage. That is why I gave it a low rating. I have 5 Horizon Hobby planes, which are great, except for ACT. I suggest buying planes with SAFE, which are great for beginner & expert or anything without ACT (Automatic Crash Technology). The struts are just a nuisance, and the plane flies without them.

If you want to get into RC airplanes, do not -- repeat: DO NOT -- buy this plane. What a piece of overpriced garbage. It does not even have aileron control, so if the plane banks it will crash right into the ground. Do yourself a favor, and buy a plane that has a full set of controls. No wonder there are so many of them for sale on eBay!
