This is a blast to fly. Out of the box and flying in under 30 minutes. Very quick and responsive. Fun, fun, fun. I just started R/C flying in July.
I flew 20+ years ago and just decided to get back into it. The technology has changed drastically since I flew. I wanted to start with a small plane with ailerons, and this was fantastic. I just received it. I charged the battery and went to fly. I made three flights with it and did not need to use the panic button. I tried all three levels and was very pleased with how easy it was. A month using the Phoenix flight simulator probably helped.
I love this plane it's so easy to fly I'm going to buy one for my daughter. Its built exceptionally well.
My first flight was over 5 minutes long which is huge since I'm new to flying. I would definitely recommend buying this plane Hobby Zone you've got a major home run with this plane
I was ready to give up mini super cub, t28, ares gama 370 destroyed,
I moved to area with a field and 25 people to help me fly , they tried ,got the plane up for me high so I could make corretion, I showed them.
I ordered the sport cub s
I not only take off myself , I also Land .
It is a must for confidence sucess,
Off to the field to fly, buy extra batteries ,Thunder 1s 160 good luck
For me, this aircraft was a step up from the Champ. It is great in all aspects, but the ailerons take a little getting used to if you are transitioning from the Champ. This aircraft also flies faster and seems to possess more power than the Champ. The SAFE technology is also helpful when starting out, as the ailerons seem to move the plane a lot more than one would think. The only places I would recommend improvement are the battery life and the rudder. Mine only lasted 10 minutes, and I was slightly dissatisfied. However, I am sure there are modifications that can be done to rectify this. The rudder control is mixed with the throttle, which can result in false throttle changes when using it. Overall, it is an extremely satisfying plane, and I would recommend it for other beginner fliers.
It looks like I got the one bad one from the lot. I got it home, charged the battery, and it went together very easily. I launched it, but I did not realize there was a 1-2 mph breeze. This breeze took the plane and boosted it very high up. I used the panic button, and it came down and crashed but not hard. I retrieved it, and now the motor works very intermittently, sometimes not at all. Wow, first flight and now I'm out $150.00. You cant really use any of the parts to build another plane, as the servos and controller are pretty much only good for this model. So I would recommend beefing up your model before you fly it, and make sure there is absolutely no breeze, as this model is designed to gain altitude with no input from you.
This little plane flies really well, except when I let it get away from me, my finger hit the switch, it came out of training mode, and I lost control. It nose-dived into the woods with thick brush. I lost it. It is a good little plane.
I have loved aviation for most of my life. I started on rubber band and later moved on to gas as the technology improved. I'm at a high elevation, so it was hard for me to tune my engines. As the electric planes evolved, I decided to give it another try. I did some research and found this little gem that is the Hobby Zone Sport Cub S. What a truly enjoyable plane to fly. Two of my friends have since purchased the same model. If you are new to flight, then please consider this model. Thank you, Hobby Zone, and I look forward to purchasing more of your planes!
First flight right out of the box (after charging the rx battery) was perfect. Flew on a calm evening with little/no wind and the plane was so easy to fly and land. I have flown before but don't consider myself as an expert in any way. This is a cool and slow 4-channel plane that will enable beginners to learn basic flight skills. The plane has 3 modes "beginner", "intermediate" and "expert". If you start with the beginner mode it will be very easy to fly as it it levels out when you release the controls. I started in beginner mode and tweaked the trims a little. It still has a tendency to climb when throttle is more than 50%, but this is no issue. To land, just cut the throttle and glide it in. I was able to land on the wheels on a pathway, but on grass it will always nose-over as its very light and the wheels are tiny. Battery runs for 10 to 12 minutes at least. Flew 3 flights on first day and ready for some more fun tonight!
I fly sport, aerobatic, large, and small size gliders. I spoke to someone at the flying field flying one of these and saw how much fun it is. With the three skill level modes and SAFE technology, a person can teach himself to fly. On level 0, it wants to fly straight and level, and you can overfly the plane. I landed a couple times using only the throttle to see how the SAFE technology worked. Positions 1 and 2 give you full control for complete flight control of the plane. It flies in a small area and is just plain fun. I bought the optional pontoons and will be doing some water take offs and landings this afternoon. BUY IT!
Never flew a R/C plane successfully, tried over the years with great frustration and disappointment. But this plane is awesome. First day at the park was a complete success, even the landing was good. No crashes. I would recommend this to anyone. Between the 3 levels and the safe mode pretty hard to do any damage. Just wish the flights were a little longer.
I just got into RC flying and found this plane to be the perfect starter plane. It is easy to fly, and I can fly it almost anywhere. I may not move up to a bigger plane at all. I may just keep repairing this one as parts are available and not expensive. However, I have not crashed it yet.
So I got this lil guy so I could start working with a 4 channel system...I had her in the air in no time at all and was blown away with the way she flew. almost no power used to climb, and with the safe system was gliding her in for nice landings...on a dead stick!!! Get the right conditions and watch out she will not want to come down!!! I love this lil plane!!! Great starter plane for the price!!!
What a great plane to start out flying. I have had it a few weeks and it is every bit as fun as when I first got it. My only issue was that my left aileron was not functioning right out of box. As I picked it up it started moving. Moved on command with the stick as well. Set it back down again and again no movement. That told me I had a loose connection and after cutting my new plane open, I found the connector was loose on the board. Pushed it on all the way and problem solved. Taped back up and was good to go and have been fine since. That was the reason for the lower quality score.
Ok, for you people who are thinking of not purchasing this product, think again. I live in a terrible place for flying, and I am terrible at it as well. However, I have not crashed this plane, even in ten mph winds. The bad reviews are very little in number, even compared to top rated planes. I have found that Horizon Hobby has very good products that are top quality. In conclusion, I think getting this plane or the champ, another good plane from Horizon Hobby, is an EXCELLENT choice!
Got this plane and it flies like a dream. I love the settings that let you learn to fly the plane in beginner mode. Be careful of the wind though. A strong wind can take this plane away from you.
I haven't been flying r/c in over 18 years and even then just didn't feel comfortable behind the sticks. So fast forward to about a month ago, I purchased an E-flite Mini Apprentice for park flying. The plane seemed big for the small fields around where I live so again not sure due to the nature of my old 40size glo engine plane. Then while getting parts for my r/c truck at the local shop there it was the Sport Cub S, small and scale looking, so I pulled the trigger and bought it. The best r/c purchase I think I ever made. From the first flight a beautiful flyer, slow or fast just easy and comfortable. However the reason I'm writing this review is my 16 year old daughter that I talked into flying with me tonight with zero experience and well no interest gave it a try. She absolutely loved it all the way to a perfect landing. So, feeling confident, I headed to the truck to grab the Mini Apprentice. As I turned back I saw my daughter flying the Cub all on her own smiling and having fun.
Lots of fun, learning a lot about flying. Easy to handle, but use in only a light breeze.
I also own the Super Cub but wanted a smaller plane to be able to fly more often in small fields and a plane that had ailerons. This plane is so lightweight that any imperceptible wind pushes it off course. The battery must be placed as far forward as possible to properly balance the plane. The flight surfaces need to be looked at carefully to ensure proper flight. I flew a couple of times last night and found it very fun and maneuverable; however, it needed significant adjustment to get proper flight. The SAFE is a major advancement from many years ago that allows anyone to enjoy what was once a very expensive and crash-prone hobby. I would like to see HZ put out a 30" wingspan SAFE Mustang.
As a newbie, this is my first plane. I have had no flying time with models, and no time on a flight simulator. This is a real blast flying. I have at the current time only flown on the beginner side, as well as Low power. This plane flies itself, and lands very easily. I would recommend this plane to anyone.
This is a very good trainer plane. It can fly super slow or very fast. It can do limited aerobatics. It does not have enough power to do loops and is not good against wind. I loved this plane, and the only problem occurred after a landing in grass. The motor came dismounted, but that was easily fixed with glue. It is very durable until your stupid friend brakes it with a football and doesn't pay you for it.
This plane was a problem from the start. It comes with a USB charger that needs a computer to charge. I did not have a computer. I had to order a second plane to get a charger I could use. This plane was not bound. The instructions on the transmitter did not bind the plane. I tried several times to bind, but with no luck. I finally found that the instructions in the manual DID work.
After several days of trying to get this $139.95 airplane to work, I finally succeeded, but it was a lot of work to get there. So much for RTF.
I have wanted to fly since I was young. I got a glider that never flew - I spent so much time to do it, that I didn't want to destroy it. After that I got a beginner airplane with fuel motor. I flew one time and it crashed. I got an EasyStar and I don't fly with him to prevent destruction. One thing is sure, I want to fly, and then I discover this airplane recommended by a person at Hobby Zone. It's really the first person who gives me the right recommendation! I flew Friday for the first time with too much wind. This airplane is amazing. I really enjoy to fly with it and at the end nothing destroyed, even one kiss landing! Really THE airplane for beginners!
