Based on a platform known for its legendary versatility, the Carbon-Z Cub makes giant scale so simple—now even more RC pilots can go big. Its enormous Tundra wheels tackle just about any terrain you choose to romp from, or you can easily mount the optional Carbon-Z Cub Float Set so no RC adventure boundaries stand in your way. A mechanism is included for towing sailplanes with wingspans as large as 3-meters and there’s even an optional camera mount so you can take one-of-a-kind images from a bird’s eye view. Even if you get carried away, the Carbon-Z structure is easy to repair.
A major part of what makes this giant scale icon so versatile is the control innovation package included as standard equipment such as the digital, metal-gear servos, and slop-free ball-link hardware. Because the included flaps are functional, greater control at low airspeeds is possible in addition to the ability to significantly shorten takeoff and landing distances.
Although this aircraft may look tame, its brushless power system has been specially developed to offer incredible muscle for unbelievable STOL performance as well as the versatility to excel as a multi-purpose aircraft. Practically all that’s left to do is to bind to your favorite DSM2®/DSMX® compatible 6-channel computer transmitter for airplanes, a 3200mAh 22.2V 30C Li-Po flight battery and balance Li-Po charger.
This was an easy plane to put together. I put the wheels on and took it to the flying field. I did a range check, taxied for about 10 seconds, threw caution to the wind, and hit the throttle. It tracked straight and, with a little elevator, up it went. I did not have to give it any trim. This plane can fly very slowly. It loops and rolls very nicely. I did hit the flap switch and it shot straight up, which is not good. That needs to be toned down with perhaps some down elevator mixing. This plane does not need any flaps, it floats in on landings. Wheels: big but to hard of foam; I am going to try rubber tires. FUN: I did install the floats; the take-off was great.Remember to take-off in the wind. I had to give it some up elevator. The loops and rolls were fun, and the landing was smooth with a nice little water rudder. I have flown over one hundred different planes, and this is one of the best planes I have flown. What I like: big, stable, easy to see in the air, can take-off on thick grass, flies great, and more.
I am very disappointed with the Carbon Z Cub. I waited forever until they were in stock to get one. The Spektrum AR635 is a nightmare to program. There are warnings such as: "If you don't get setup right, plane will crash!" I am afraid to fly it if I ever do get it together. I don't want to end up with a $400 pile of broken foam. Sending it back is not an option, as the freight is too costly. I may have to yank out the AR635 and replace it with a standard 600. I hate to say it, but the HK stabilization system is cheaper and easy to set up. I have one in a jet and it works. I will probably just sell this at our next club swap meet and let someone else deal with it.
