Husky 1800mm PNP Special Edition

  • Husky 1800mm PNP Special Edition

    Note from Dan:

The feedback we got on our Arrows RC Husky has brought action!

The 1800mm Husky has been extremely popular. Over the summer we were getting reports back from pilots who were hopping them up. They were saying the performance was crazy. But they were having to basically rebuild the plane to handle the performance.

So, we decided to bring out a Special Edition version to make this fun available to everybody. We put in a bigger motor and ESC to handle 5-cell performance. (We know a lot of you don’t have 5-cell LiPo batteries so we are putting them on sale for a limited time.) We installed all metal gear servos to prevent stripping at high speed. Rudders were being torn off in radical maneuvering, so we installed fabric hinging on the rudder.

We thought we should make it distinctive so we changed from a red livery to orange.

This is our first Arrows plane that includes the Arrows Vector stabilizing system. Just hook up a standard 6 channel RX and you can have full stabilization.

    We know you’ll like this!

The Husky is a PA-18 inspired, high-winged light utility aircraft which made its first flight in 1986.

Arrows RC has recreated this backcountry workhorse — from rivet lines and body panels to the predictable STOL flight characteristics — without overlooking any detail when creating the Husky 1800mm.

Packed full of attractive features, the Arrows Husky 1800mm is prebuilt with rugged CNC landing gear, oversized balloon tires, and functional flaps for true STOL backcountry operations.

The Husky Special Edition features an alternative trim scheme and upgraded electronics — a 3948 700kV motor, 50A ESC and 23g metal servos.

The Special Edition allows expert pilots to further expand the flight envelope of the Husky — while the fiber-reinforced control rudder ensures precision control at these higher loads.

Perfect for beginners and experts alike, the Husky is the ultimate bush plane every pilot needs!

I love it. It is even more impressive in person than it is in the videos. Wonderfully engineered for high performance. My only criticism is there really needs to be an easier wing removal system. Transport and storage almost requires they be removable. I'd do something to make the screws, and wiring more friendly to this. Maybe 1/4 turn screws and a snap in wiring plug for the 3 wing devices.
Otherwise, wow does this plane have field and sky presence that turns heads.

Just flew my first three flights on this wonderful rendition of the PA-18 Husky.  First flight was on a 5s 60C 3600mAh.  The remaining two flight on a 4S  60C 3600mAh.  Winds were gusty today following the snow storm that had blown through, but the Vector gyro did a nice job in damping disturbances.  Definitely a great flying plane.  Having been flying mostly EDF’s of late I was surprised at how nicely the plane made banked turns using rudder alone.  A great plane worth the price especially with the ongoing discount.  Removing and installing the wings at first was a bit work intensive, but once I got the hang of it it turns out to be a breeze.  The livery colors make this plane standout in the air.

Very simple to assemble, though because of its size two people make assembly easier and much faster. The plane goes the extra mile on engineering for durability allowing extreme acrobatic flight. The design, colors, and overall size give this plane a flight line presence that will turn heads even before it flies. Weather has prohibited any flights yet, but from the reviewer videos I've seen, holy cow I can't wait.

I’ve missed not having a sport utility bird in my collection since I sold my Sport Cub a few years ago.  This Special Edition looked attractive due to its size and upgrades.  The addition of an included Vector gyro looked appealing for those high wind gusty days.  I was not disappointed.  Well manufactured, really fun to fly with the 5S power system.  I did find I preferred using a Master Airscrew 12x8 vice the included 13x7.5 propeller.

    Hello Dan.
I had bought a Husky for my very first plane. Flew the original 8/ 10 times, a few without crashing. After 5 crashes and was able too repair and fly again, the last flight resulted in a catastrophic wing failure during flight. I like it a lot and when I saw it had been revamped I bought the new one. Unfortunately it’s still in the box till spring time. With all the upgrades that was done to it it should be a good flying durable plane. Thanks for putting out great planes for inexpensive cost.     Dave

I came across the Husky special edition when I was looking at the Arrows T-28.
I read the description, did a little research and placed my order.
The Husky is well packed and there was zero defects. Let me back up a bit..There is the original Arrows Husky (also very nice) and this one , the special edition , bigger motor & esc , metal gear servos, internal fabric hinge on rudder and it includes there VECTOR stabilization system already installed !! Major upgrades and they still kept the price very reasonable. Nice Job Dan !
    AND.. it has 5S capability!
First things first , the foam wheels that are on the landing gear from factory are the only complaint I have , they are very hard /firm. They were replaced with inflatable Du-bro tires. If you do the same DO not add any air to the tires , they are perfect straight out of the pkg. I also applied a coat of minwax waterbased semi-glosspolycrylic to protect the painted areas , it does a good job and really makes the paint "POP".
Assembly is easy , a few screws in the tail and several for the landing gear . Four screw come up from under the wing to secure each half (can be a pain at the field )
Once I had the receiver in the Husky I did all my transmitter programming on my trusty Futaba 14SG before permanently installing it on the left inside just rear of the battery hatch.
One of the many things that I found to be a real nice surprise was that the servos sounded great ( no buzzing ) had decent speed and they centered VERY nice. Impressive for sure. Add the ball links and the control surfaces are smooth and slop free compared to "Z"bends. on 4S the Husky is just too much fun to be legal, add in the throttle slowly and before you know it , you are witnessing a super scale lift off and climb-out. At a safe altitude , it flying straight and level with three clicks of down elevator trim...awwww this thing is SWEEEEET ! The vector stabilization works as it should,, I did not need it , but I like that I can turn it on and smooth things out on gusty / windy days.
Next I did a few low passes as I poured on the juice and did a presentation pass..beautiful ! Big loops , side slips into touch and go's..I was having a blast.
Timer went off and I had been in the air for 7 minutes..felt more like 2...I had to land uhh details details.
Next flight was on 5S ..The Husky has some serious snot on 5S ..off like a shot and straight up ! Way way more power to weight than you would see on a full scale Husky , which is no slouch !
I like it on 4S ..a lot and that is probably what I will fly this gem with 75% of the time. Having 5S capability is super cool and I think I will really like float flying with a 5S pak.
The Arrows Husky is such a nice airplane, it looks incredible, the electronics have all been trouble free and let's not forget these super smooth (& quiet) Servos.
About two days after the maiden flight of the Arrows Husky, I put my E-flite Carbon z Cub up for sale , it was a really nice airplane , but the Husky has a certain type of MOJO that I can't quite put my finger on. The whole package is just fantastic.. for the money I don't think it can be beat.
Extremely happy and I am ordering another to have as a backup.

Great plane at a great price

    Durability

    Appearance

I purchased this plane when it was on sale for $290.00 and it's worth every penny. I also bought the Dubro 4.5 inch inflatable tires ( no air added ) which are great for no bounce landings. No landing gear suspension needed when you use these tires. Because of the light weight of the plane, I think it flies just fine on 4s. I put the ball link on the inner hole of the control horn on the aileron for more throw. The rudder and elevator have plenty of authority. Doing a knife edge and flying inverted is a breeze. It's a gentle giant. The included Gyro works great although I had to move it back a bit in order to fit two 2200 4s in parallel for the correct CG. To make feeding the wires of the wing into the fuselage easier, I put 2.5" of shrink tubing around the wires at the wing root and the wing slides right on with no pinching of the wires. If you have trouble lining up the screw holes for the wing, don't push real hard on the wing, look at where the wing is touching the fuselage and sand a little foam off the wing root. For the way I fly, I get 8 minutes using two 2200 4s in parallel and 4.5 minutes using a 2500 4s bringing the batteries down to 30%. I wanted to have one large plane in my collection and I'm glad I chose this one. One last thing. With a prop this size, you definitely need to balance the blades and the hub. If you still have vibration after balancing the prop, you need a new motor shaft.

This plane is amazing!!!!! On it maiden flight it flew amazing. I didn’t have to add any digital trim to it at all and when I landed it I added flaps and it basically landed itself. The fit and finish of the Husky is amazing, the price point is great and the battery compartment is easy to get in and out of and it flies like forever. My shortest flight has been just over 12 minutes on a 4s 5000mah battery. It is a joy to fly and one of my most favorite planes to fly.

Just getting back into RC aviation after a 40+ year sabbatical and was looking for a larger plane that still wouldn’t break the bank. The  Husky 1800SE was the perfect choice! It’s large enough to be easily seen in the sky, yet it has plenty of power on either a 4S or 5S battery so you’re not spending a hundred bucks for a battery.  The plane went together really easily (about 30 minutes) and flies like a dream!! The only few negatives I found are as follows: the low budget hard foam landing gear wheels make for some very harsh landings, but this is easily resolved by changing them out to Dubro 4.5” inflatable wheels......HUGE IMPROVEMENT, and worth the added expense! The landing gear “skirts” continually fall off on anything other than a perfect landing. Again, this is easily enough overcome with a few dollops of hot glue where they snap on to the main landing gear. Would I buy this plane again?..... IN A HEARTBEAT!! You won’t be disappointed.

Got my Huskey SE, but with a 4s, not the 6s. Plane was ez to assemble. However, matching the Spectrum Rx to the Vector stabilization system was confusing to me (wiring). I talked with Dan at HZ and he was very polite and ready to help. An outfit with good customer relations is great in my opinion. I'll surely give them my business in the future.

After seeing all the hype of this airplane I bought one on sale with a discount code from RC Saylors.  I really love the color of this plane so much that I gave it a nice coat of polycrylic to preserve it.
First couple of flights were great.  I fly it on a Smart 6S 5000 which is more than what its rated for, but I fly conservative and so far the electrics are holding up.
I did have a vibration at a certain throttle level.  When I investigated I found that a few of the motor mount screws were loose, and one of them had actually fallen off.   I had to remove the motor and then put loctite on  the screws and then reassembled.  Vibration is gone and plane is flying great.

    Assembly not so simple.

The appearance and price for a plane of this size drew my attention. Assembly seemed simple up to the point of attaching the wings. The wing cord attachment screws are difficult to align and thread. Fishing servo wires through the wing into the fuselage is tedious, a better attachment method like a power box type plug found on the FMS Ranger 1800 would be an improvement. The hardware bag is short one 3x16mm screw -needed to attach the spinner but an extra 3x32mm screw is provided, swap it out with the float attachment plate to get the needed 16mm screw for the spinner.
The difficult assembly of the wing will deter me from reaching for this plane as it needs to be assembled-disassembled for transport and storage.

This is a great looking plane. It was easy to put together. It would takeoff with very little runway. It flew well for the most part. During a turn, the wing spar broke causing a wing to fold and a crash ensued. It was a joy to fly otherwise.

I loved this plane and it flew well until the wing spat broke and the wing folder and it crashed.  The spar is either too weak or I got a defective one.  Did a mild bank of about 45 degrees at half throttle and it just broke.  Sad because I loved flying this plane and was telling friends at my field to get it
ArrowsRC says: The plane had been flown a while and we can't say why the spar gave out, but it is the only one out of thousands where we have had a problem. We offered the customer a hefty discount on another and we are all good.
